Depends. Obsession on what and how?
If done correctly, whatever you obsess about will be the one thing in your life that you do very well at, at the cost of other areas of your life.
Kobe Bryant was obsessed with basketball, and became a legendary icon.
As long as it’s directed correctly, it can help someone reach the top 1% in anything they choose.
But, they need to focus their obsession on getting better at something.
If an obsession is going nowhere and there is no growth or progression towards a goal, then it can be self-destructive. Like obsession over a fandom may lead to nowhere if they are literally just running in circles.
But, even with that fandom example, if directed correctly, it can lead to somewhere. If someone was a huge [insert fandom] fan. They can obsess over it and become super knowledgeable about it and create content around it that other fans would want to pay attention to. They could direct their obsession in a way where they are obsessed with creating the best [insert fandom] content available on the internet. Now they’re a content creator that can make a living through their passion. They could get millions of views on YouTube and monetize that attention though sponsorships, affiliate marketing, ad cents, and more. They could support themselves and their family on an income that was generated thanks to their obsession.
Even obsessing about a relationship may not necessarily be bad, if the goal is to have the healthiest and most fulfilling relationship they can, constantly bettering themselves to be the best partner they can possibly be. Eventually, they may end up with a super strong relationship with their partner.
But of course, even when directed correctly, obsessions are going to take away from other areas in one’s life, and those will have to be sacrifices that are ethical (first and foremost) and if ethical, those sacrifices need to be ones they are willing to make.
not if you can handle it
