Long long time ago. I think I was a teenager. We had windows in the front of our house that had 4 small panes in them. One time, one of the panes cracked, so my father and I replaced it. Had to cut the glass we got at the hardware store down to size. My father knew what he was doing. Score the glass with the cutter and then gently tap it to break it along the scored line.
Yes. At some event put on at the main library where lots of different groups, clubs and organizations came and showed people how to do various things. We took our kids and they had this room where you could make a drinking glass out of soda bottles.
I've never used one but have seen them used many times by others. It really doesn't look that hard to do. You just have to tap the glass with the ball on the end along the line you scribed and it will break cleanly.
Yes I have. Cut, tap gently - repeat into desired shape. Created some nice things out of glass that's still being used.

Oh yes. When I was a kid, I was at my grandpas house , accidentally broke an attic window. He taught me how to cut glass and reglaze a window for my punishment. Later, I worked in stained glass. Made window hangings, trinket trays, terrariums. He taught me to solder, so that helped with the stained glass too. He was a MacGyver of the 1950’s.
Very. Had 7-8 patentable inventions. Proposed one to a company and they essentially stole it from him.
I agree it's been a really long time since I used one of those.
I remember my dad had one of those in his work shop. I never used it though.
What other options are there? What else should I have cut glass with? You pretty much have to use a glass cutter…
Once upon a time, I did stained glass projects with my then-wife. I cut glass regularly and always used such a cutter.
When I was in my 20s, a friend got into making leaded glass art. I helped him cut stained glass into shapes using one of those cutters.
I remodeled an old church rectory from the late 1890s. House had something like 80+ single paned windows. I think I was 2 to 1 when I finished restoring them.
Hahaha it was actually last week. I had to use it on a bathroom mirror to cut in 2 junction boxes for vanity lights. It's time consuming but it does a great job.
Yeah. Takes patience and skill.
Soldering however is a lost art with PEX
I asked for that
A long time ago, also with not so great results
Oh gosh no. I would get injured.
@exitseven used a glass cutter but not like this one
I have. Very carefully.
Nope, never have.
Yes but it’s difficult
No. Not yet
