How do you Feel once The Ball Drops on New Year's?

I've grown not to like these holidays and annual occasions. There is too much emotional weight attached to them. I'm trying to detach myself from the associations, expectations, and emotional significance I/we attach to them. Many things that are intended to be a festive celebration also tend to accompany sadness, loneliness, and disappointment. The reminding of how people are 'supposed' to be happy can also just make people feel bad that they are not.

I feel weird actually and I hate to say it but it’s not that happy anymore it’s just another year we have to face covid. I can’t wait for the New Years Eve when hopefully that’s behind us and we really can look forward to the year ahead. That’s the year I will celebrate again.

I'm usually asleep these days. Before that, I worked in a bar so would be enjoying the 10 mins break somewhere cold and dark (cellars are great for that). This year will be my first NYE party for many years so might be different.

When the Times Square ball drips, I'll be asleep I hope (what with time zones and stuff).

I haven't watched the ball drop for NYE since I was a kid, but I remember getting a bit of a sinking, sad feeling. A similar feeling to when you look at old photos, looking into a still moment, lost forever in time, that you can't get back. I think I'd probably feel the same way even now, if I watched it.
