But what do you prefer.
Do you prefer non religious Christmas carols?
But what do you prefer.
I'm a traditional Christmas kind of guy.
Salvation Army band, egg nog and Noddy Holder's sotto-voce rendition of "Merry Christmas Everybody" alternating with the 1984 version of "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Saints Bob and Midge playing every waking hour from mid November...
Even before I became religious, I preferred religious carols to non religious ones because the religious ones had a beautiful medieval tradition behind its musical composition, and it had a sombre and significant undertone and I've always hated songs about things that are not important like reindeer or snowman. Songs about kings and babies and travellers sounds more exciting.
When you listen to the carrols your whole life, you don't care if they are religious or not. The melody, the memories, and the words you have memorised many years ago make them special.
I can't wait to sing them with my family!!
I mean, my favourite English Christmas carol is definitely "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen". The religious carols are straightforward about what exactly is being celebrated in the first place and what is expected of humans in exchange for the great gift of God's mercy. That's second place in my list of the most motivational categories of songs in existence.

Doesn't matter. Carols are carols, nice to sing, and nice to listen to.
I enjoy both, but my favorites are religious, such as

Let it be about fate, religion and believe... That is what Christmas is about... It has always been that way...
People can believe in what they want...
And I don't care... Christmas for me is not about the songs... It is about.. Peace, being to gether.. Love and other shit.. 😄
So let us sing... And enjoy
The music, melody is why I like a song.
I like Jesus centered songs as well as songs that don't mention Jesus or the Christmas birth.
I love Away in the Manger, Oh Holy Night, Carol of the Bells, I'll Have a Blue Christmas, I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas (Home Alone Version).
I am fully aware Christmas exist specifically as a selected date to honor the birth of CHRIST.
I don't use vague, meaningless words like "religious".
To me they are all religious as they revolve around a religious holiday. I like them all whether it be Frosty the Snowman or Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer or Silent Night Holy Night. Its all good to me.
I like the idea that Frosty the Snowman is the actual messiah.
@AngryCarl2 uh huh
I AM religious, but I like both types. Each and every one Has its own uniqueness and in time they become tradition, for example we all hear 'All I want for Christmas' each year just Luke 'Silent night'.
Christmas carols are far too sugared to my taste, meaning I don't mind what carols I hear, prefering being somewhere else then. To quote a nice Flemish folk singer (Wannes Vandevelde): "Christmas is the day they don't shoot...".
I prefer pagan wassailing drinking songs. The 22nd December this year.
There are non-religious Christmas carols? Isn't it implicit?
I dislike both.
Privately, I can spend Christmas without unnecessary noise.
My only hardship there:
Can't wait until all this la-la-la in the supermarkets is over... even before it really started.
Afterthought:

I like the secular carols. No need to ruin Christmas by singing about Jesus. It's supposed to be Santa's big day anyway.
Did you know if you rearrange the letters of Santa... oh you did? Just checking.
Makes no difference to me. I like them all, non-religious and religious.
@purplepoppy Thank you for the Like
since I have never thought about it until now it doesn't make any difference to me at all what type they are.
Christmas carols are Christmas carols to me.
I prefer praising Jesus. There's a reason for the season.
I prefer religious Christmas carols
Nah. Canr take christ out of Christmas.
no preference
I just like the classic ones
Non religious
I like both as long as they are done well.
Non religious Christmas carols for me.
