Does anyone else believe The Who's where actually the main villans in The Grinch?

To me, it does seem like The Grinch was a somewhat sympathetic character who was actually bullied as a kid and for a good reason feels the way he does. To me its kinda similar to the way SpongeBob and Patrick sometimes treat Squidward. In the new version of The Grinch he actually reminds me somewhat of a Squidward type character more so than the past versions.

The Whos have a lot to be grateful for. Cindy setting them straight saved the Grinch from himself. And then there's Horton, who faced all kinds of harassment because he tried to stop an insane Karen of a kangaroo from committing genocide.

Somewhere in there is a moral for all of us. If only Theo applied it equally to himself, maybe he wouldn't have been bullied by Roosevelt.

The villain depends on which adaptation you're looking at.
Original- The Grinch. He's the monster on the mountain who can't stand other's happiness so he takes it away
Live Action film- The Whos. They're overly capitalistic, see Christmas as a time of monetary value, and bullied the Grinch intensely as a kid
CGI Animated film- Neither. Everyone's nice to each other

Uhhh... no... hard pass for me on the theory that the Grinch is a sympathetic victim, even moreso on the theory that the Who's were the main villains.

Playing 'devil's advocate', let's assume that the Grinch was bullied as a kid, why would he be allowed a pass later in life to steal, vandalize, etc people who have earned the things they have worked for in life?

I think in the end there is no villain. Just a misunderstood man who gained a new perspective of Christmas after starting with a bad one from the fault of no one. It just happened.

Maybe in the Jim Carrey version. In the original book and cartoon, he was just grumpy and mean with no explanation.

Cindy Lou Who is such a sweet girl, but yeah other Whos were mean especially those who bullied Grinch. It's kinda understandable why he turned out the way he did. But I'm glad it has a positive ending.
