I don't find marriage a necessity but for some odd reason I think of marriage as a way to ensure more stability for families. I wouldn't get married if I didn't plan on having children but I do so I would like to get married as tradition. I get that divorce rates are high so not much point in getting married if it will 50% end in divorce but divorce is a tough process and I think it would encourage both parties more to fix things than just leaving. Probably not the case but it's just my mindset which may take a while to change.

I'm ok with never getting married. My man and I have decided to spend our lives together but agree that we don't need to get married to do it. I'm sorry but people don't fight for each other the way they use too. They give up too easily. You pay all this money to get married then pay more to get divorced. Breakups are hard enough without bringing court and Lawyers into it. What's so wrong with just making a commitment to spend your life together just between each other?

I like to think that marriage can be great but I have never been married and the marriage I witnessed between my now divorced parents, was not exactly the shiny star of all examples. Regardless, I love the above quote of "Choose your love; love your choice.".

Women have to give up so much? What exactly do they give up for getting married? I know the man pays for pretty much everything, he has to work more hours then come home and help around the house hence men statistically do more work over all then women do, but women really only gain money gain a house, if she wants children she gets a stable enviroment that she gets to raise her children in etc. Of course you would here this kind of thing in a womans study class that has little to do with facts and more to do with perpetuating the idea that women are victims (ironic since women have it better then men in all areas of society). If your only hearing one side of the situation your not actually learning anything and since womens studies are about portraying men poorly and women as martyrs and victims its only made this one sidedness worse.

Yeah that's provably false. Men do quite a bit, in fact according to statistics they do more (not much more but it is more) and they don't get credit for it and their not allowed to whine and complain about how unfair life is to them that they have to do something for others instead of only thinking about themselves. I haven't made up anything. Men do do more work then women. The average amount of work including paid work, house work and child rearing for women is about 45.2 hours of work a week vs. a mans 45.6 hours. So men do technically work more then women. Normally I would say its the same as the difference is marginal except for the fact that society and women are convinced that they are the only ones who work and the only ones who should be acknowledged which is causing women to demand men to do even more then they already do. In fact I do think women won't be satisfied even when we get to the point where men do everything and women do nothing. Like I said this is fact we have the evidence to show it.
I can't provide links (I tried) because I have to be level 2(because this site is idiotically stupid) however if you look you can find this data very easily. I mean its kind of absurd how women just shit on men all the time and think that men do nothing even as we know they work more hours, give all they have to women (hence domestic spending being done almost exclusively by women (80%, 70% world wide). Its rather twisted. I mean honestly what is more likely that all women are victims being taken advantage of and oppressed by all the evil horrible lazy men or that we both are contributing to our families and society? I think its fairly obvious which one of those ideas is false. That when a woman uses our biased legal system to divorce a man and then force him to pay far more in child support then he can afford, while simultaneously cutting off his access to his own children because she is vindictive, thats womens fault. Also the fact that 80% of child support is paid by men only 20% by women, how many of them are dead beats in this regard do you think? Well 70% of those men pay their child support, more are unable to (and thus get arrested and put in a debtors prison) meanwhile out of those 20% of women how many do you think pay child support?

That's part of the reason why women are having a hard time finding a partner. Women don't "date down" education wise (in general anyway) well men are happy to do so. As more women are going into further education then men the numbers aren't in women's favour.
Those women, who refuse to date a guy without a degree, are single by choice. There is nothing wrong with that but it's not anyone else's fault.

I don't hate feminist, I believe the movement at its purest form allowed for certain inalienable right to be given to women. Women were being beaten, raped, even killed with impunity, they couldn't work. Some forced into prostitution because of the lack of labour opportunities. well even tho some people may rather avoid it than face it... avoiding marriage is both a thing for men and women... the thing is... some people toss away tradition and prefer to cohabitate with their partner and this... makes them believe that they're glad living together and there's no need to get married and therefore its makes it less likely for marriage to occur...
But marriage isn't a necessity. Food is a necessity, water is a necessity, heck even shelter is a necessity.

I think marriage is great if both are mature people who love each other, but I agree that we are now the privileged ones. And I think that has led to more divorces and bad situations. Society feels like they still have to protect us, so we get so much help whenever something goes wrong. I think that leads to many BUT NOT ALL women to rushing into things without thinking about because they know there are so few consequences if they screw up.
Divorce rates are staggering for these reasons but not all marriages fail after the nuptials. I know one couple who are still crazy about each other after ten years of marriage and three kids, so not all marriages fail but I see your point. I think that cohabitation seems easier because both parties know that they can leave at any time if the relationship doesn't make them happy, but who knows. I've never been married so I could be wrong lol
While this was a thought-out my take it's full of bulshit. Everything you're talking about is nothing but banter. I know of 30 couples easily that been married 20 and 30 years. Society is going to hell because they can't live with each other anymore. There's nothing else to say this my take proves my point
I definitely don't blame men for avoiding marriage. The laws aren't exactly fair to men in case of divorce.
If the divorce laws were more fair, more men would be willing to get married.

Men and women are avoiding marriage for many reasons other than commitment. One reasons why men and women are avoiding marriage is because they can't financially support anyone other than themselves at the moment. Another reason is cause it's hard to find a good woman or man these days. You want to take your time and figure someone out before rushing into marriage. Marriage is forever (or so they say) and it's not something that you should rush into.
its mostly men avoiding marriage, most women still want it, however they are having trouble finding any man willing to commit these days. for obvious reasons.

I don't want to get married until the laws of it change. I will only get married or have a long term girlfriend who lives with me in my house if I am free of paying alimony, child support and my money/resources are 100% secured if we divorce or break up.

I don assume plan A is gonna fail, statistics say so that it is and it's according to studies it say it's a very big risk for men to commit to women now. An obviously you must know the true natures of female hypergamy that's ingrained in to all females which is their biological default programming.
Bottom line is investing in women is a worse/riskier gamble than investing in stocks, shares or bonds. Don't buy women guys... only rent them.

I agree with this article. My boyfriend and I plan to never marry unless there's some really good reason to (probably not). I don't look down on people who do, and like attending weddings and wishing well for new husbands and wives, but I'd never want to do it. If we ever hate each other enough to leave, I'd rather the door be easy to exit, and for there to be no negative feelings between me or him over "stealing" half our stuff if we're unhappy and want to divorce. I don't want him or I to be "tied" to each other by law, but only by love.
I can understand the financial reasons for getting married, though. I wouldn't do it for those, though.
