Difference between living together and marriage?

I’ve got no issues at all if people decide to live together before marriage. In my culture tho, people don’t usually do that. Nor do they have kids before marriage. Recently my friends got married and it was so emotional for them, also the bride was in a frenzy and couldn’t believe that she was getting married. However; she and her partner lived together for 6 years and have 2 kids together. Is that similar to a marriage?

I know the question may seem rather odd, but I’ve been genuinely curious. Reason being, in my mind, they’ve already been living like a married couple without signing a marriage certificate. I don't know if that makes sense lol.

I don't think there's many differences. It's just more related to beliefs, preferences, religion and symbol.

For the more religious and/or romantic people, they can see marriage as the best option cos that's how they were taught or it's seen as more righteous option.

Or even cos they see marriage as more romantic. A symbol of their eternal love.

Now, for the more practical people and possibly not so religious nor romantic... Living together can be seem as the best option cos they know that a piece of paper won't change the fact that people can divorce and nothing ever lasts, or even cos they think it's easier and won't feel tied up to the person.

Both options are alright and not so different at the end, it's just a matter of preferences and morals.

But one thing must be said. Marriage always hits stronger than just living together. If you get married to someone, it's as if you signed up a contract of eternal loyalty to someone xD.

Well for starters having a ring meant you two were together without having to tell anyone.

Either way, wearing any type of commitment ring, or not shouldn’t mean a couple slacks in their trust nor that they forget to introduce their s/o to others as theirs. It’s the polite thing to do for everyone, and respectable thing to do for one’s self. 🤷‍♀️

Nowadays marriages and living together are somewhat more “fluid” and that’s based upon couples individually. Not generally.

FOOK YOUR CULTURE, jokes aside though your culture is far more sensible than the world around it is that's for sure, I don't know if your friend shares that with your culture, but I'll tell you what, she probably fantasized about getting married and the wedding and having them be officially committed and the wedding and her new husband calling her my wife and the wedding for so long that it was such a high she'd definitely go nuts

And few other things

Other then that. That piece of paper is how the government makes money off your ass

Marriage is a legal contract between two people. They promise to support each other and to not abandon them. And if they do, they usually face legal consequences.

Living together is more like a leap of faith. If one decides to end the relationship, the other can end up with kids and without any way to take care of them if the first one owned ther home.
