Why is the marriage rate at a record low?

The marriage rate in the US is the lowest it has ever been in the history of the nation, and it continues to fall. What do you believe is behind that trend?

Personally I believe it is because marriage offers men far fewer benefits than it used to, and it is far more risky than it used to be. Half of marriages end in divorce, women file 80% of divorces, and men get screwed in divorce court and child custody settlements. On top of that, casual sex has become the norm and men can get sex easily without all the risks of marriage.

Why do you think marriage is so unpopular today?

Well women have too high a standard for the men they marry and men have become less willing to marry based on the fact that 50% of marriages end in divorce, 80% of divorces are instigated by the wife and men end up being treated unfairly by divorce courts and child custody courts. Men end up paying child support for kids they no longer see not even half the time for a minimumof 18 years sometimes more, alimony often until they die, ex wives are sometimes entitled to their pensions after taking half of everything they spent years working for or were passed down from their family. So imagine being a guy you marry a woman and have kids, work hard supporting them only for your wife to decide she doesn't love you and puts you out of your own house and moves the guy she was cheating in with your kids, so now he's playing father to your kids, watching your TV, drinking your beer and ploughing your wife. I honestly think the 50% divorce rate instigated by 80% of wives would be a lot less if courts were fairer towards men in alimony and child custody cases and these women were expected to support themselves.

In that situation I would follow suit of a guy I know who when his wife cheated on him and decided she was getting a divorce and full custody refused to play ball with the plans she made. He just stopped working.

Marriage just lets women steal from men. More men that have been abused by the courts and by women have informed the younger generations of men about the downfalls, which they can verify themselves by looking up statistics, and now the majority of men realize they shouldn't get married. It has no benefit to men. (In the USA at least there is no benefit for a man to be married) And they realize that any woman that refuses to sign a prenuptial agreement on video months before marriage is just admitting that she is in it to steal from the man.

Another reason is that too many people are immoral and not fit to be a long term exclusive partner. Their past actions/choices in life make them unfit as a partner, and their life goals often make them incompatible with other decent people. The kinds of people that typically wanted to get married in the past were the ones that wanted to raise a family, and too many people in modern times are unfit to be a long term mate and parent.

Also, promiscuity makes people unable to form strong emotional connections (pair bonding) with others so they are not good enough to be a long term partner for any good person.

Because women are less inclined to get married more now than ever before. Marriage is an inherently unequal institution that has always benefited men more than it has women, and women are not required to get married to survive like they have from a historical standpoint, which gives women the freedom to chose to marry if and who they want to, not because they need to.. Thankfully a lot of these inequities have been resolved from a legal stand point, giving legal, financial and bodily autonomy.

There is a good reason why single childless women are a lot happier and more successful than their married counterparts.

I would say two major reasons is that it is now permissible by society to have sex before matrimony so many men and women do not view sex as an incentive for getting married and another factor is that people are becoming less tolerant of unhappy relationships and do not want to enter a commitment that is hard to break up if abuse happens.

All of what you said is true, but add to that that a lot of people are poor candidates for marriage, for a variety of reasons (some not their fault) and more people are smart enough to recognize that.

Because our country is too wealthy BUT that is changing so marriage rates will increase as job losses increase. EVERYTHING is about MONEY 💰  🤷🏻‍♂️

It actually has nothing to do with wanting or not wanting marriage.

Being a geek is trendy now, instead of something only actual geeks (smart people) do, so most people who are millenials or gen z spend all their time on devices, but most women aren't fond of dating apps/sites, even though thats the only realistic way for them to meet likeminded people.

In the rare cases where you meet a possible match in person, the anti-male sexuality culture has men too afraid to approach, and most women won't step up to fill that initiation role.

So what happens is the majority of people are alone/single/unmarried because they are too scared to put in the effort to find someone and ask them out. And the only exceptions are the few people who just want casual sex, but even though they are the extreme minority (5% of the populace), they make up 80% of the people who have the guts to flirt, so it seems like hookup culture is popular when its not, and in reality, we just never meet most people online.

So the reason is self isolation and stubborness.

It was always hard for smart people to date, but now its hard for everyone.

My brother and his wife are now separated and they were together for 5 years and have two girls both 8 and 6 years old. Really my brother was doing everything in the relationship like working and cleaning while his wife never cleaned or cooked for her children. She even cheated on him twice to make matters worse. Though only reason he married her was he already had a two year old daughter with his wife and another on the way. I just marriages aren't meant to be in today's society. I wished my brother had found a good Christian women in church instead of looking online like he did with his two girls who are now ex girlfriend and ex wife. When my brother was with his ex girlfriend, they didn't want to get married and had two boys. Though I am glad they never married as both were young (21 years old and 18 years old) and weren't ready for marriage.

Because marriage is unnatural from an evolutionary standpoint and for the longest of time has been forcibly imposed by society.
Now that the western world has released that mandate people are naturally gravitating towards not getting married.
The reasons are not the same for men and women but both come to the same conclusion

Marriage is obsolete. An outdated institution, n created by religious people. So many have grown to realise that it is just not necessary. Maybe many people are not religious any more. Maybe it is too expensive, and poor value for money.

It is they way society has been drifting. There are many causations, I'll list a few.

1. The decline of testosterone in men.

2. The newfound "independence" by women.

3. The influx of dopamine hits (such as games, media, etc), which lead to a decline of testosterone in men.

Mostly because culture promotes selfishness and focusing on your needs. Besides if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend and you're not married you don't have to do any long lasting legal steps - you can just leave him/her without saying anything.

Which has only negative impact on society - only 20% of Black boys raised without a father in USA finish college, which makes them have lower chance for having a good job and a high quality of life.

Most commentators cite the advent of the progesterone pill and changes to the laws on divorce to make it much easier. Which lead to social attitudes changing.

Yeah, the red pill scene will tell you the grim modern stuff but the rot set in back in the 70s.

Out of fashion for some but marriage is still statistically the best environment in which to raise children.
