It's about family. In modern times, a good housewife can save more money than she can make at most jobs that are available. She has more choices in how her children are raised and educated. It's a step up for women, not down. Many women have long made that choice voluntarily for those reasons. Nothing glamorous about slaving for an ungrateful corporation that pays the bare minimum wage regardless how much money is made by the company and the product they are selling.
She can't get fired. She doesn't have to be nice to people she hates unless it's her husband she hates which is pretty common now. She can take breaks whenever she wants and generally most men are doing the repairs and upgrades on the house and vehicle. Maybe your an apartment dweller and not married?
"I feel like she's mainly doing all the work and he's being treated like a king while she's slaving away." LMAO
But find yourself a man, who is willing "slave" all the things around the house and ONLY you bring the paycheck to the house. After few months i wanna hear how things are going for you :)

How does your wife or husband (I don't know what you're into) feel about this?
I am old fashioned. Its my duty as a man to take care of woman and a kid. But she wanna go to work - so i dont stop her. And its her own money. We both take care of the house
Well if you are not a lazy sack of bones, you are doing your part around the house, then you don't sound that old fashioned to me. Normally if the woman is working, the man still expects her to do everything around the house by herself without him helping at all.
A lot of people especially women won't agree with be but this doesn't bother me at all. I like that there are gender roles in our society in general not only in a marriage.

That's a good question. For the most part, men - especially White men - have not needed any movement because they controlled everything. But, over the generations, things have gradually changed as self-reflection (often after protests) has lead to a recognition of unfair or unethical behavior, so things change.
For instance, 200+ years ago, you had to be a White male property owner to vote. And Senators weren't elected by people, but by state legislatures. Of course, slavery became an issue and women's rights, and the rights of people who didn't own property, and the rights of people old enough to be drafted and killed but not old enough to vote. Eventually, all of these have changed.
So, some modern men are pissy - often, rightfully so - often, not - that they are losing their rights or are not being treated as fairly.
For instance, when I was a kid, it was commonplace for the mother to get custody of the kids in a divorce; especially if the kids were little. Most men didn't even question this. Over the past 2 or 3 generations, it is usually now joint custody because men have complained and science has backed them up that fathers are equally important as mothers - especially for older kids.
Anyway, there is a nascent "men's rights movement" and that's probably who you are thinking of although I can't think of a specific organization by name.
With evidence where white men owned everything and how women were treated like property not too long ago, it angers me a little to see men complain now when a good part of history they controlled everything. Yet the fact that they are losing some control and that women are advocating for themselves to not be treated like second class citizens, why is that such a big deal and so hard? Personally, I dont hate men, I don't want to be on top. I just want to be treated with respect, I'm against gender roles. I dont want to be forced to be the only one cooking and cleaning as well as other duties around the house. I would prefer for the man in my life to do them as well or along side with me. I don't want this forced gender role to happen against my will. I don't believe I am a feminist, I know most men hate feminism. So does that mean they hate equality in relationships where women are forced to slave away in the kitchen? Because if they are against that, then I would say they are feminists or equalists in some way.
@Brittanyroseee all the power to you. You find what works for you. I understand your distain, gender roles are just a way to keep us under control. Any man can cook, there are a lot of men who are great cooks. Yet, they allow themselves to act lazy and stupid. They allow themselves to rely on women like they need to be babied.
Wow. The ignorance here is absolutely shocking. You act as if a man isn't "slaving away" himself while he's at work. What do you think he's doing all day?
This chick is so entitled that she can be entirely clueless. She has never been exposed to what it takes to make a society run. Jobs most women work are "HR" or corporate communications, shit like that that are mostly made up or irrelevant to real function.
Let this clueless female come and work in the oil fields, steel mills, construction, manufacturing, plumbing, sewage, brick laying, etc, etc, etc, and she would quickly realize how much privilege she has... but she won't. Ignorance is bliss, ignorance is privilege.
"Unless the guy has one of the worst and hardest jobs out there, then he gets a pass. But for any other normal person working, their job isn't that outrageously difficult where they need their wife waiting on them hand and foot."
@asker You literally referred to cooking and cleaning as "slaving away." No one is going to take you seriously when you say things like that.
I work in a restaurant and I cook and clean throughout my entire shift. With no breaks. No calling to chat with Ashley or Rebecca or Stacey or Marge. No going out for a hair appointment. No chilling on the couch watching "The View." No walking Fifi in the park.
@KrakenAttackin Well if that's how it is in America, you would know better than me. However the men in my country, a good percentage work good jobs and a small percentage work construction and hard labor jobs. We cannot relate, we both have different experiences.
Asker... no, far more. men work difficult and arduous jobs than you realize, you are just blind to it. No matter where you live it take menz a lot of men, to build and keep a society going. You ladies are mostly along for the ride.
@KrakenAttackin well then who's fault is that? It's not like we don't want to work. You are making it difficult for yourselves and then complaining about how women can't help when you men made it that way.

She is not miserable because she is an adult and understands that happiness is a choice not something you expect others to provide
Also because a lot of the stay at home wives that I know have a ton of free time
one of my dealers is a single mom she has two boys 7 and 11 husband leaves for work and kids go to football practice
she has the whole day to herself
A lot of people especially women won't agree with be but this doesn't bother me at all. I like that there are gender roles in our society in general not only in a marriage.
I'm sure some women want traditional roles, and that is fine, as long as they have other choices as well.
People enjoy all sorts of lifestyles, so its not surprising that traditional housewife is one of those.
I understand it, but I do not think it should be mandatory nor expected. People are allowed and should not be shamed for living how they wish to live.
I found someone who loves cleaning and cooking and hates working at a job. Everybody is different and you find what works for you
Congratulations!
You rather succinctly explained much of why feminism came to be.
Yet, I am a equalist.
Which means that you are a feminist.
Congrats!
So it’s feminist to not want to be a stay at home mom or house wife?
Wait so im a feminist because i choose a career over raising a family?
You need to educate yourself if you seriously think they're the same.
Feminism is about change ng society so that women are equal to men.
Equal in respect.
Equal in opportunity.
Equal under the law.
Its equality for both genders. Feminism is about having women on top and making men look bad. While eqaulism is a fairness for men too, not just women.
No, feminism is NOT about having women on top AT ALL.
This is why the "ERA" was called the Equal Rights Amendment.
Stop listening to the horseshit of social media and other young people who do not know their ass from their elbow.
Instead, do your due diligence and learn from history or from a vetted source like Encyclopaedia Britannica.

I guess it’s weird I don’t want to be a mom or let alone have kids or raise them at home while my husband works
I would kill myself😂
People who believe in gender roles believe all women should be stay at home moms with kids. Gross.
@Brittanyroseee all the power to you. You find what works for you. I understand your distain, gender roles are just a way to keep us under control. I kinda like it for myself. I don’t think it should be forced on people though.
I DON'T WANT GENDER ROLES!
Get this thing out of my face.
Wow. The ignorance here is absolutely shocking. You act as if a man isn't "slaving away" himself while he's at work. What do you think he's doing all day?
Most jobs aren't that hard, first world problems.
It sounds to me like you know nothing at all about the real world. Have you even ever had a job before?
@KrakenAttackin
This chick is so entitled that she can be entirely clueless. She has never been exposed to what it takes to make a society run. Jobs most women work are "HR" or corporate communications, shit like that that are mostly made up or irrelevant to real function.

@KrakenAttackin EXACTLY. Thank you!
@KrakenAttackin I excluded the blue-collar jobs in my post. But office jobs aren't that hard, I've worked them.
Putting words in my mouth. But of course finding an easily threatened man isn't surprising
"Unless the guy has one of the worst and hardest jobs out there, then he gets a pass. But for any other normal person working, their job isn't that outrageously difficult where they need their wife waiting on them hand and foot."
Please read more carefully next time.

You're naming all kinds of things a 50 year old woman would do. What generation are you from?
Not sure what country you are from but a job without breaks isn't legal.
Asker... most men have these jobs. You really are clueless and entitled.
@KrakenAttackin what country do you live in?
The United States!
@KrakenAttackin Well if that's how it is in America, you would know better than me. However the men in my country, a good percentage work good jobs and a small percentage work construction and hard labor jobs. We cannot relate, we both have different experiences.

Who ðe Hell defines gender roles? According to a hadīþ, Muhammad hasn’t treated his wives like slaves. He cooked, cleaned, and took out ðe rubbiš.
Is every man that way?
Every man should be like that. If he expects his wife to do the chores, what kind of man is he?
Very true. On a side note, how many languages do you speak?
110: Russian, English, Spanish, American, Pig Latin, and Deutsch. I also know the binary system!
I don't know lol shit maybe she should break the ice and say something after a while
As long as you’re always thinking in the transactional sense, it will always be more of a roommate with benefits situationship.
Women want men to be gentlemen, provide, be masculine, adhere to traditional gender roles however women don’t care to adhere to their gender roles.
How is it a hard win?
Because I've never seen a woman who lost a finger at work. Or can barely walk. Or die
I excluded those type of jobs.
For obvious reasons
Women have not lived the sort of life you're describing since the 1950s. Grow up.
A lot men still want it and force women to be this way. You don't know because you are not a woman.
I really don't get your opinion beyond the guy not working and sucking off of her kind maternal instincts. You lost me at he's working..
I strongly believe in gender roles. It actually benefits the woman a lot more.
