I won't miss K-Mart.
SIDE STORY
When K-Mart was going under it's stock plummeted to $1 a share. A friend of mine bought 20,000 shares, which was $20,000.00. In 3-mpnths time the stock went up to $3 a share. He cashed out and now had $20,000.00 K-Mart stock price remained at $3 a share for the longest time. He already spent a good portion of the $60,000 on crap but put the rest in K-Mart stock. He also refinances his house, borrowed money from family members and put it all in K-Mart stock. Within a month K-Mart's became a subsidiary of Sears and it's stock became worthless.22 Reply- +1 y
Wow. That was dumb of him.

+1 yPossibly, only had one near me growing up but they had crappy service, wally world came in with good service and ran them out, then wally world took over their crappy service.
What I do miss is Sears, they had great customer service before Kmart bought them (or something like that, don't know exactly how it went down.)23 Reply- +1 y
Yes, I miss Sears too. Check out my MYTake about it.
Sears Had Everything: The decline of an American institution ↗ - +1 y
There was a Sears nearby here until about 2015 (I think) cause my totaled SUV had a Die hard battery in it from them, from around that time... that was still going good 7 years later. I am told no other battery is going to be as good, maybe interstate but not anymore. That Sears is now a auto museum, some rich guy bought it and turned it into a place to display all his nice antique cars and stuff.
Thanks MHO
Miss them? not especially. Those in my area were dirty, disorganized and rundown.
When I was a kid there were several department stores which are no longer around today: White Front, FedMart, Grants and The Treasury. Even Woolworth, which was an enormous chain which had been around forever, went out of business 25 years ago.
Times change, and businesses can't afford to sit by and then play catch up.06 Reply- +1 y
@exitseven Kmart used to be called something else?
- +1 y
@Jamie05rhs yes, it used to be S. S Kresges.
- +1 y
@exitseven Get outta here. I never knew that before.
- +1 y
@Jamie05rhs This was the 50s and 60s and 70s. I can barely remember the Kresges store at the local shopping center (It was not a mall)

Oh! Okay
Is this true? I had no idea K-Mart was dying. I don't shop at any of them, though. Here in Korea though, we have E-Mart which is almost the same thing, but slightly better.

+1 yI was really upset when we lost ours. It was a landmark. Only store we had. Stop sign dusty intersection which is now an 8 lane death-trap.
However that was sentimental, as @TrueConfection said Sears was better.31 Reply
+1 yOnly been to once or twice…Never really care for them or big retails. It’s almost like I didn’t know they existed. it annoys me that I have to walk through such big place to find what I need.
Sad for those who lost their jobs.11 Reply
+1 yWe used to shop there as they had lower prices and decent clothes. Walmart has run them all off. Even now there are lots of chain stores that have closed their doors or will be.

Most malls without their big box draws like Sears, Penneys, Mervyn's, Nordstroms, etc, soon go under as the mall owners have to raise rent to keep the places open. I remember some one told me once that in addition to paying rent the stores had to pay a percentage of their profits to the mall too.
+1 yI haven't shopped at Kmart in years, so I don't think I'll miss them. Back in my college days (many years ago), there was a Kmart less than a mile (1.5 km) down the street from my apartment that I shopped at all the time; it was right next to my favorite grocery store. I remember buying my first set of dishes there, I think it was only 10 bucks.
10 ReplyYes, I will miss K-Mart stores. They carried some items that the other stores didn't have. I think our K-Marts in our area have been closed for a couple of years already.

+1 yWhat I liked/miss about kmart, was the hard-to-find beauty products that Walmart and target doesn’t carry 😑
00 ReplyI remember going to Kmart as a kid but never liked the store. Seemed to price their stuff higher than Walmart and stuff and disorganized. Don't really miss it at all really aside from the popcorn and stuff.
00 ReplyI've never shopped in a Kmart store and I've never even been in one so I guess I won't miss them
