Mine too! Since it's so close to Christmas, AND right after New Year's, most people are kind of partied out, and some still sleeping it off, so I take it as a time of reflection and contemplation, thinking of what's gone before and what's waiting ahead.

One ritual I always observed is to sit in a pitch-dark room and listen to all nine of Beethoven's symphonies, back to back. It's not how they were intended to be written, but the buildup really is something; by the end, the only excuse for not leaping out of your seat, headbanging while singing along in gibberish psuedoGerman, is if you know the actual words and leap out of your seat, headbanging while singing along in REAL German.

It's the kind of thing that leaves you energized enough to face a whole year.

By myself a fairly expensive present that nobody else would ever buy me, spend most of the day in the pool, play cards with my relictives, have a cook-out, eventually have them sing to me and then I blow out the candles. Then we get cake & ice cream as I read the cards and open the presents they DID get me. Then we play cards for another few hours until everyone leaves shortly after midnight.
