Today Amazon sent me a reader response survey where they asked me about my buying habits and one of the questions was, which company I buy print books from the most, and they listed 5 businesses, one of which, was the University of Toronto.
How does Amazon know I studied at the University of Toronto? I did not use my alumni email address for Amazon, so it is odd they know where I studied.
I can think of two options which is that the cell phone number used to verify my university mailing address is identical to the cell phone number used to verify my Amazon account.
The other possible answer is I sometimes used my MBNA credit card to buy merchandise from the University book store and Amazon knows what I buy with MBNA since the Amazon Mastercard is an MBNA Card, but that would mean Amazon kept tabs on my purchases for 10 years or more because I graduated a long time ago.
Or Amazon MBNA has access to my bank records and knows U of T is one of the payees on my roster of payable account holders.
