Manual puts you in direct control of the car. You feel what the engine is doing and how the car is behaving. On an open road it's far more enjoyable than automatic. It also makes you a better driver.
my thoughts! those who long for automatic can't drive a car in reality. they can't feel the car. what a miss! :( (i love cars since i got my 1st toy one)
If you have a small economy car without a lot of HP you get better performance with a stick.

aren't like most new cars automatic? That seems to be what all I see now. Even police cruisers are automatic, though their engines have a few more goodies inside, they can sometimes over power a stick

You probably shouldn't, women have a hard enough time driving an automatic, I'd be scared for my life if they drove manual
@goddess87 To be fair, that's probably because men tend to drive a lot more aggressively than most women. Women tend to be a little more cautious and 'safe' when driving, which is great from an insurer's point of view.

Nice Take :)
Personally a lot of people I know prefer manual over automatic
Its easy actually. I've had both. Auto is a lot easier but dead boring. Manual offers much more control.
I'm from England so driving a manual car is second nature really. Once you learn there is really no thought to it.
Driving stick is super easy, you get very use to it, most the world do it, plus you get better performance out of the car with manual gears.

And in traffic it's a pain in the ass. As long as I live in California, I'll stick with an automatic.

@LunaJ Yeah, sit in on an L. A. freeway for two hours constantly clutching and shifting, and then tell me how much you enjoy feeling your car.
@zagor dude, its not about that. by the way, traffic jam sux with both type as it's booooriiiing.
@LunaJ Unfortunately around here traffic jam is 17 hours a day.
@zagor 🙈 too much! i understand why your choice is rather an automatic there 😁
You have more control with a manual. I almost prefer it
I think it'd be fun to learn. I have one of those manumatic transmissions and it doesn't always go into the gear that I want.
Gas savings, better stopping power, more acceleration, more control, less daydreaming behind the wheel. Automatics make drivers lazy.
I get your point but I think it's handy to be able to drive both. You just never know when it might come in handy.
Because it's cool and it makes me feel like a real man. Is there any better reason to do something?
Its a valuable skill to have. And not hard to pick up if you put your mind to it either
I agree! Manual transmissions are a royal pain in the ass...

You're an ass. I can drive a manual fine. To be technical men are in more wrecks that women which is why they have higher insurance rates
hahaha

Honestly, it's just what you're used to. In the UK most cars are manual/stick shift whatever.
Oh yes, and manual is more fuel efficient.
It connects you to the car more, it's more fun in a performance car
Stick shift is the best, It makes you feel more in control with more input.
Because you will never be a semi truck driver if you don't
My first car was a stick shift. It's fun to drive stick except in stop and go traffic.
I live in southern California, stop-and-go traffic is a constant part of life here. No manuals for me!
@Prof_Don agreed. I've been in LA at midnight bedore stuck in traffic. Does it ever end? Lol
