Misconceptions About ADHD/ADD

MatthewGoodman

Attention-Defecate Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is exactly as the name implies. It causes one to have their attention easily diverted and makes them hyperactive. It can be without the hyperactivity which is just Attention-Defecate Disorder (ADD) but it is mostly the same premise. Here are some common misconceptions of ADHD/ADD.

1) Only Kids Have ADHD/ADD

Misconceptions About ADHD/ADD

This is a very common one. While yes, many kids are diagnosed with ADHD/ADD it isn't something they always grow out of. Many adults also have ADHD/ADD, although it isn't as evident in adults as it is in kids.

2) They Are Constantly Hyper

Misconceptions About ADHD/ADD

The amount of hyperactivity in a person with ADHD is all dependent on the person. Sometime it could mean that they are constantly hyper, it can also mean that they fidget a lot. There isn't really much more to say about this.

3) They Aren't Trying Hard Enough

Misconceptions About ADHD/ADD

It isn't a matter of effort, rather of is a matter of them physically not being able to pay attention. Often times people will say "well yesterday you focused on hobby X, why can't you focus now?" And the simple answer to that question would be that it is a chemical imbalance in the brain, mostly with a lack of the chemical dopamine, which is the chemical that makes us feel good or happy once we achieve something.

I am sorry this is a short Take, but I just couldn't think of anything else really and I just wanted to get a take out so I can start getting my name out there. Many of my other Takes (which are longer than this one) have all been shared anonymously and I decided now to stop sharing anonymously. With that aside, I hope this helped to shed a little light on ADHD/ADD. I know it isn't much, but it is something. If you have ADHD/ADD what other misconceptions have you heard? I am really looking forward to reading your input. Now if you'd excuse me, I am going to work one yet another Take. Thank you all for reading

*Side note: If you want to read some of the other Takes I made, just ask and I can give you the list. I don't think you'll be able to find them otherwise since I shared them anonymously.
