The Differences Between Sociopaths And Psychopaths

*Triggering Topic*

Well hello everyone,

It's me again.

I've made a MyTake some time before called,

Sociopathy: Myths And Truths
In this Take I tried to explain some stereotypes about sociopathy and psychopathy, yet this didn't prevent people (as expected) to write again fake things about Sociopaths and I get extremely annoyed by it because people give the impression that sociopaths are actually the same as psychopaths because they don't know enough things about the topic.

As I've mentioned before I've been diagnosed with ASPD. And because I've taken a few comments trying to 'prove' that I'm actually lying about it, I'll repeat some things and add some more to my case, not because it's your business but because I want to make some people shut up.

First of all since age 10, I had sociopath tendencies, I used to enjoy physically hurting my weaker classmates, I used to extremely enjoy manipulation even if I was young, I would enjoy even more to emotionally hurt others. It was a huge deal for me to see that I had that power over people to control their feelings, emotions, and actions without feeling the tiniest regrets.

My psychologists though did not made an official diagnosis about it until 2 months ago. At first I had official papers that were saying I had bipolar and borderline personality disorders that explained extreme anger episodes and 'hate' towards other people.

However since I'm now officially 17, the new papers that I have explain that the medication that I've been taking for the past 7 years didn't help at all because I never had bipolar and/or borderline personality disorders, the only part that worked was to shut off a part of my brain that stopped producing the substance that makes some specific emotions happen.

And after a serious incident, that I prefer not to talk about, that happened 2 months ago in some way I managed to subconsciously help the medication to completely shut off some normal brain function.

Fact that made it clear for my psychologists that I have ASPD.

So, let's make some things clear.

5 Differences Between Sociopaths and Psychopaths

1. Sociopaths Are Able To Create Bonds.

The Differences Between Sociopaths And Psychopaths

While the traits of the two may appear similar, it is thought that sociopaths have a less severe form of lack of empathy and lack of guilt. Actually sociopaths are able to form some deep bonds with specific people like family, children and/or an SO while a psychopath can't. Moreover, while a sociopath would not feel even the tiniest guilt emotionally hurting a stranger, they may feel guilt and remorse over hurting someone with which they share a bond with.

2. Sociopaths Can Get Better, Psychopaths Can't.

The Differences Between Sociopaths And Psychopaths

It often appears that some of the very antisocial behavior in sociopaths lessens over time, actually as they grow up they start to understand and connect with the rest of people more while this can't be said of psychopaths. Psychopaths appear to have no concern whatsoever of the consequences, it's also have been proven that they don't care for their future, while a sociopath may learn to avoid consequences over time by reducing antisocial behavior.

3. Psychopaths Are More Organized Than Sociopaths.

The Differences Between Sociopaths And Psychopaths

A psychopath is organized in every part of their thinking and behavior, and can always keep good emotional and physical control, then can hold themselves from giving emotional reaction, even under situations that most would find threatening or horrifying. Conversely, the sociopath is actually sensitive to emotions like anger and jealousy. A sociopath is more likely to spontaneously act out in inappropriate ways without thinking through the consequences because these kind of emotion get the best of his actions.

4. Conscience Of A Sociopath vs A Psychopath.

The Differences Between Sociopaths And Psychopaths

A psychopath doesn’t have any conscience. He can lie, steal, pretend, kill, he can do the worst crimes in the world yet he'll never feel any moral qualms ever, though he may rarely pretend to, just for the eyes of the people. He may observe others and then act like them in order for people not to find out about his crimes. But still he will never feel guilt about anything.

A sociopath has a conscience, even if it’s weak. He may know that hurting you is wrong, he might know that making you cry is wrong, he may know that manipulating people is again wrong and he might even feel some guilt or remorse at some point, but that won’t stop his behavior, because his ego satisfaction is more important.

'Both lack the ability to stand in someone else’s shoes and understand how they feel. But a psychopath has less regard for others.' -Tompkins.

5. Brain Differences.

The Differences Between Sociopaths And Psychopaths

Recent research suggests a psychopath’s brain is not like other people’s, it's actually drastically different. The differences are that important that can even change basic body functions. For example, when most people see disturbing scenes, blood, dead people or any kind violence in a movie, their hearts beat faster, their breathing quickens, their face makes grimaces showing how much they dislike what they see and their palms get sweaty. A psychopath has the exact opposite reaction. He gets calmer and happier. While sociopaths don't have brain differences because sociopaths ARE MADE most of the time by traumatic life experiences.

P.S.

To end this, I wanted to say that those of you who are actually interested in writing takes or questions about these kind of things, you should actually do proper research beforehand, not just read a few things online and think you are an expert about these situations.
