You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

To kick things off let's start with a cancerous meme. Also I swear to God G@G if you make this the thumbnail photo I will... Be annoyed and do nothing.

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

Nice attitude we got here don't we?

Ironically enough I'm going to try and be as neutral on this subject as I possibly can.

You're not brutally honest, you're cruel and arrogant.

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

Since I'm not going to make this a member post, I'll make this short.

The sub culture of being "brutally honest" is something that people seem to be taking a lot of pride in.

And that's annoying.

Because I see people online all the time saying things along the lines of "fuck your feelings" or phrases similar to the band--aid meme above.

To hear that is a cringe fest because that sort of rhetoric tends to prey on the weak.

The 4 reason why it's annoying.

________________________________

1.) Honestly is not inherently "Brutal".

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

________________________________

Most people need people to give them honest opinions, well guess what? There are PLENTY of ways to be honest about something without being brutal.

Let's make an analogy.

Imagine if some asks me for some water

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

and instead of me giving them a glass of water

to drink, like a considerate person...

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

I spray them with a fire hose!

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

Now they're just cold, wet, confused, and it didn't even benefit them.

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

That's kind of what being an arrogant idiot is when you're being "brutally honest".

You obviously knew they wanted a drink, and even if they say "I just want water, I don't care about how you get it me."

Another example.

Imagine you're a teacher, if a student walks up to you and asks "am I going to fail this class?" and they've dug them self so deep that's its impossible.

The honest thing to do would be to tell them to drop the class so they don't affect their GPA.

You can even tell them that they should work on showing up to class more, or focusing more on completing work on time.

This information will help a person for next time they have trouble with a class. And I'm sure they'll understand that they need to do better next time.

While the "brutally honest" thing to do would to tell that this class is too advanced for them, and how they shouldn't take the class anymore or any other class at this level. Essentially acting condescending and shitty to a student who most likely didn't do anything to you.

You don't know this kid, you're not his friend, you don't know what goes on in his life, and if you're so arrogant about how interesting your class is, just shove it, you're not gonna have to see the kid again so what's the point?

Without the analogy, if you're not emotionally intelligent enough to actually give someone feedback that will actually be beneficial to them, just don't bother.

Exceptions : If you are gentle with your criticisms and they still get hostile, don't bother hesitating to spray them with the fire hose, it's the only way to put out a fire.

But make sure to use water instead of gasoline, because constructive criticisms are examples of water, insults and personal attacks are examples of gasoline.

2.) Being honest doesn't make you correct.

________________________________

"There are so many fake people out there!"

"Ugh people don't like hanging around me because I'm too honest!"

Maybe don't being around you because you're neither helpful nor considerate?

Here's an example.

It's like one of your female friends being like" oh God I'm pregnant, I'm not ready to be a mom! what do I do? "

And you say "Use a rubber next time."

She obviously knows WHY she's pregnant, and to be Mr "I told you so" is not going to do anything but boost your own ego, and it's definitely not going to help your friend in her situation.

Also dude wtf why would you even say that? It's just rude.

Another example.

Imagine some girl takes a selfie and posts it on Instagram. You don't like the way she looks, so you leave a comment along the lines of "you look like a man, and not a hot one either."

You may have expressed your own opinion, but what have you accomplished? You only increased the likelihood of making her hate herself more. Congrats?

Exceptions: If someone is clearly fishing for compliments, ignore them. That's brutal honesty in a silent form, it communicates that nobody cares. If someone is clearly arrogant about their own appearance and asks for opinions despite the fact they clearly are obsessed with their appearance. Grab your fire hose and have some fun you silly sadist.

3.) Constant pride in being brutally honest is pathetic.

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

________________________________

Oh you're honest? Cool? Wanna remind me 37 more times? I constantly need to know.

It shows a serious lack of confidence in your relationships with people. I get insecurity is hard to combat, but isn't it kind of ironic that the people who want you to believe they're honest usually want you to believe that then being a dick is some sort of a redeeming quality.

It's kind of pathetic, especially when this person's friends believe them, making them feel inferior to this pseudo intellectual.

Side note

Ironically the same people who say "fuck your feelings" usually have the thinnest of skin.

If you can't take someone being honest about you in return, then you zip it!

Exceptions: If you're brutally honest in a way where you're able to dish it and take it, then that's different. Also if you are in a friend group of people who are super sensitive and you just expressing your passive opinion and they take it the wrong way, you're not to fault don't worry.

Wrap up.

You're not brutally honest, you're arrogant and annoying.

________________________________

I guess I lied about keeping it short, but here why I wrote this myTake.

Some G@Gers have told me that I am brutally honest, then also claim to be brutally honest themselves.

I don't like being in a crowd like that because I don't belong in a circle of people who believe they know better than everyone else.

These people seem so attached to this thought, as if it's something they want to be known for, and being a dick online isn't charming, it can be ironically funny, but beyond that, it's just a cringe fest.

Seeing people on this site using "Brutal honesty" as a crutch to be extremely frustrated and opinionated just annoys me.

But at the same time, I'm kind of a hypocrite when it comes to this because people are going to call this myTake "brutally honest" when people may not realize something about something about me.

I actually want help people on this site, but I'm also so arrogant that I don't believe I need a lot of help on this site.

My main bullet of this myTake is...

You're not actually trying to help people, you're just a bully. You're not honest, you're self righteous. You're not insightful, you're emotionally immature.

How's that for brutal honesty?
