Guys, your girlfriend is afraid of thunderstorms?

is you are with your girl and there is a thunderstorm, what would you do? she is very afraid of thunderstorms. What you you do to console her?

I voted F for "other." I would comfort her, and then when she was calmed down I'd try to get to the bottom of what her fear was all about. Obviously it's good to have a healthy fear of lightning and tornadoes 'cause they can kill you. But if you're inside, and it's just raining and thundering, then there's nothing to worry about. You see what if we got married and she was the mother of my kids. I wouldn't want everyone to fall to pieces every time it thundered if I wasn't there. So I'd comfort her, but I'd try to get her to where she could see there's nothing to be afraid of.

My girlfridnd actually is terrified of thunderstorms. I usually try to comfort her, and/or distract her, but it doesn't always work.

During the particularly bad ones (tornado weather), I'll take her down into the basement so she can't look out the window, and try to make her laugh.

Cuddling with her to try and make her feel safer would be my first instinct. Turning the TV up to block out some noise might help so I would suggest that. Ignoring her or telling her to suck it up wouldn't even occur to me. Time however is often a major factor, and I might not always be able to comfort her as she needs, but I would certainly try to be as sensitive to her fear as possible.

Both my sis and I were scared stiff of thunderstorms when we were tiny tots until our dad carried us out into the garden and gently explained what it was all about. We had absolute trust in him, so from then on, we have both loved thunderstorms, the bigger the better!

My ex GF was afraid of thunderstorms, but we were long distance and barely got to see eachother. But i think its adorable, and i would definitely cuddle her. Maybe I'd turn on some music too to keep her from getting too scared.

Explain to her the very low risk of being struck by lightning, how to be safe in thunderstorms, and that if you hear the thunder, the lightning has already struck.

That depends. ¿Is she just scared? If so, I'd probably hug her and try to distract her.
If she is chronically afraid of thunders and lightning (astraphobia) I'd let her do whatever her psychiatrist prescribed her.

Yes it's irrational, but phobias are. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be taken seriously. Someone who is afraid should always be consoled.

If she told me and wanted to hug me, of course I'd let her. If she was scared but didn't say anything about it, but made it pretty obvious, I'd stick with her until the storm stopped.

Consoling and cuddling or paying any attention to it at all will do nothing but reward her fear. Distraction is the way to go!
