Why do young people talk so fast?

Young people seem to talk really fast and mumble cause they don't open their mouths making it hard to understand them sometimes. Why is this?

Thank you. After working for many years in heavy industry, the old ears aren't what they used to be. I've had to tell young people to slow down cause I don't hear that fast!!! Then throw in a pierced tongue and I usually don't have an idea what is being said.

As a younger person I can agree with you. Yes some of us do that. I'm guilty of it. I find that it's because the world is so fast past that I have to. At work things need to get done quickly, so fast instruction and quick responses are needed. At home not so much. However the habit carries over. That's my reasoning for it.
