Can a narcissist friendzone you?

I usually hear about narcissist lovers. I dated a guy briefly who led me on and made me fall deeply. We never did anything physical, not even kissing because he said I never initiated. He then rejected me and wanted to be friends. He then became a bully and rejected me horribly. He abused me (physically, emotionally, mentally, financially) as a friend and liked the validation I gave him. He did horrific things that blows my loved ones minds. If he wasn't the devil himself, he certainly was very close to being him.

My loyalty for him went deep for 1 year in a half. His rejection did a lot of damage and I'm in recovery. My therapist diagnosed this "friend" with NPD.

I'm just curious about narcissistic behavior if anyone has had experience.

Of course they can. The thing to remember is that someone with NPD can’t actually connect with anyone on a human level. They don’t date or not date someone because of their own preferences. They date someone who matches the constructed identity they chose for themselves. Essentially their logic is, “Is this the type of person that people would expect the person I want to be viewed as to be with?” Everyone is a side character and they feel like the protagonist in a movie. They don’t view people fully, only view them as “types”.

Sounds like a narcissist to me. He’d have friend zoned you for his own personal gain.
