Yes. They use that to add weight to your dispenser and keep it from moving when you try to take tape from it. If it's too light you can pull the whole dispenser towards you. It's common sense.

I usually get my lead from pinewood derby car weights, you already have the amount of weight in easy to cut little trapezoids, the lead is pretty pure, and cheap. Cast-iron pans are good to melt it down in, just stuff some aluminum foil in there and it might keep the dispenser from melting.

Well, you could do that, or do both, water boils at 100C which is lower than the melting point of plastic, brilliant... I'm going to keep that in mind.

Actually, bondo would be a good one, it's fairly heavy, and would fill all the cracks, since it would dry in there as a fiberglass composite, not only would it be heavy again, but really really tough to break again.

No never got that far to tear up my tape dispenser. Cause I never owned a tape dispenser that contained sand. Mine have always been plastic and cheap. Or scotch tape.
