For me it depends on relevance.
Do I need to tell someone about my period?
Sometimes, the answer is yes.
If I need my friend/family member to pick up tampons for me, or possibly bring me tylenol at 4 a. m.. If I'm suddenly dropping plans I had made with them, and/or don't want to drive anywhere. If it seems abnormal, and I'm not sure if I should book an appointment about it.
If it is RELEVANT. Other than that, only if directly asked.
I expect the same (generally) when it comes to guys pooping-- or anyone pooping. I'm sure you've said you have to go to the bathroom before when excusing yourself from a conversation. If you stank up the bathroom. If it's bloody or you haven't pooped in a week.
Basically: if it is relevant.

I don't really have any need or desire to talk about peeing or pooping, so I'm not sure that I can relate to this double standard all that much.
But, I will say this: while I agree that guys in a relationship are going to need to know about his girl's periods to some extent, most of us guys appreciate only being told the minimum amount of information necessary to manage the situation at hand. We don't need to know every detail - broad strokes are more than enough to convey the necessary information. It's not the same. Giving birth or having miscarriage - which is essentially a period is not similar to poop or piss.
I talk about my periods to my husband because it's important for him to know my biology. Unlike everyone keeping it in the dark like it's some kinda witchcraft.I don't talk about periods to people that I'm dating.
My guy friends seem to be okay with either
