That is a very clever question. 👌
I don't think I've ever 'lost' something myself. I have a real thing for leather so have had different pairs of gloves over the years and some of those I thought I left places, but almost always I find them in a car later. There is one pair I believe I left in a store one winter, but I couldn't figure out the name of the store to call them. I have not been able to replace them because they were long, covering the wrists, which is rare, lined with cashmere or some natural blend, and had decorative silver hardware buckles, and buttery soft. My favourite black ones I've ever had. That was my mistake and I'm still lamenting them.
Everything else has been stolen. Which really bothers me.
When I was a little kid in school, fellow students would steal things out of our lockers (especially caged gym lockers) so for a long time I was missing a tortoiseshell and faux diamond headband, and some pale blue heart crystal earrings. I still remember them and how much I missed them, but I an live without them now.
I've had one apartment broken into but luckily our Chow Chow defended the place and he ran off with nothing. Ha!!
What I do miss and still think about is the entire bag of stuff that was stolen on one of my two vacations in Europe. Somewhere between Venice and Cologne, through the Swiss alps, on the train someone stole my bag which contained all my jewellery (learned that lesson - never travel with jewellery), and all of my purchases and souvenirs from the various cities, and glassware from Venice (I collect coloured and patterned glass.) Most of the other things I remember were gifts for family and friends and it's fine. But I'd want my old jewellery and my glass. They were small decorative perfume bottles which I planned to display together. Very beautiful.
Those stuff that were stolen on the train! 🤦🏻♂️
There are lots of crooks on trains in Europe. If you looked like a tourist to them, you’d be an instant target. It’s unfortunate but it’s also a good story to tell years later/good lesson to always remember whenever you travel.
My answer would probably be an old CD that had 28 romantic songs. It was a gift from a girl I knew in elementary school. Her name was Salma and she was extremely beautiful, she looked like an angel (I think she was Turkish). I sometimes wonder what became of her (no trace of her on social media or anything). She was one of my first crushes (a reciprocated crush thankfully). Anyway, I had that CD in an old Opel Vectra that I drove for a while. I sold that car one day and I forgot the CD in the car. It still bothers me.
Yes I definitely learned some things about travelling on that trip. (For another thing, choose carefully who you go with. Can be a nightmare if the dynamic is off. I hate groups. Was caught in the middle of people who I thought were all friends; I was wrong.)
Part of the problem with the train situation was that I could not understand whatever language they were speaking (I forget whether it was Italian, German, etc. They must have spoken English at some points too but I couldn't hear), the loudspeaker was too soft, I was exhausted and me and my girl friend fell asleep for a while (I slept through much of The Alps!!), and I'm terrible with maps, sense of direction and all that, so I really didn't know how many stops there was going to be. And I was naive. I should have considered that with every stop, there are people who can leave - with your luggage, if they want to. We got hungry, and eventually took the risk of going off to the food car, taking our purses and my camera bag but leaving the rest up in the overhead of our 'private' car. I'm a worrier (usually my cautiousness is a good thing in these cases) and even asked her, "You think we can leave our luggage here?" Big mistake. That mistake meant that my German relatives (whom I'd never met before) had to stay up until 1:30am helping me fill out paperwork in German at the train police station. Of course I didn't get the stuff back. Was probably a complete waste of time.
All my makeup and odds and ends were in there. It kind of deflated the rest of the trip.
It's probably one of the reasons I don't like to travel much anymore. This was just one of many, and there's always something - massive storm, airline loses luggage, cancellations and delays with booked transit, hurt back from hauling the luggage, etc.
So I made lots of mistakes, learned a lot from that trip.
Now I never leave my stuff out of sight. I sit on top of my luggage, like a chicken on a nest, lol. Zipped purse, always clutched tight. Back preferably up against a wall so no one can go behind me. Best jewellery at home. Try to walk mostly and stay off packed transit. I'm paranoid about being mugged or pick-pocketed.
I looked for a picture of a chicken to represent what I mean. That was fun. Didn't find exactly what I mean. So maybe three...

I love your answer.
Reciprocals are the best.
I was thinking in a pink teddy bear which I made with my own hands when I was a girl (I gave him even a cardboard heart), and a green-pink poach which I also made, but due to a misunderstanding someone took it.
And old recording of my friend... I'd kind of force to him record short stories telling, just for the fun of it, even some singing. After my best friend passed away, I went to dig for those old recording and found a couple, which I gave to his mother and sister and it's something they deeply treasure (my friend and I were the same, as in we would always avoid cameras and photos taken, we didn't like them.)
We had, and my parents still have hundreds of cassettes if not thousands, so to me it seemed to be not an issue to record our fun over some of the music ones, instead of just using blank cassettes, so I had to spend hours and hours of listening to every single one, over weeks... just to find the ones that had us, singing, or being funny, because we liked that too, the idea that some day someone would be playing music and we would randomly pop-up with our nonsense.
Eventually I found a couple of them, but I still missed one, it was a "bloopers" one, it was the first time I tried to make him record when he absolutely didn't want to, so I was making him laugh like I'd always do... so that's the one I wanted to find the most, because that's how we all remember him... cracking up and laughing crazy like he always liked to do, and to be. That's the one I wish I could have back.

Oh, there are a number of things that come to my mind! (Brilliant question, by the way! 👍)
So far, out of what jumps at me, the greatest seems to be…

• my Street Fighter Zero 2 (released in the U. S. as Street Fighter Alpha 2) P. C.-version video-game C. D. borrowed by my cousin… who lost it and replaced it with some Star Wars game I never played due to lack of interest

I’d look for one of my oldest toys that my grandpa gave me when I was 4. It was a toy puppy and it’s name was Jimmy. It was this really squishy toy. I loved it
lol, I doubt that I would. I moved to a new house when i was 6, so whilst moving, i lost it. But it'd be nice if i got it back again
My original wedding ring. I designed it and had it made in 1995. It was totally unique and I loved it. I lost it somehow less than 10 years ago. I feel like a piece of shit for losing not just "a" ring, but my wedding ring. I also mourn losing that particularly unique, aesthetically beautiful, irreplaceable ring.
The photos my grandmother took of herself and her younger sister in Boston in 1910 when she was 11 years old. They got the photos out of a machine that would take your photo for I think 5 cents and you'd get a strip of four. I lost them while moving to Florida and can't for the life of me understand what happened to them.
Once when I was 10, someone left their cellar window open and with my friends we went in and I stole a knife. And for biology class we needed a knife to cut fruits while the teacher explained what's inside the fruit. I mean it wasn't that we were all running around with knives in school. The teacher had the knives gave it to us for the lesson then took it back. And I never get that knife back. I've stolen the knife in a bad ass way and the knife was stolen from me by bureaucracy.
My Zodiac Sea Wolf wrist watch., I had it for years and lost it in a waterfall. I came out of it and I noticed it was gone.
My iPhone that I lost on the way back from vacation in Spain. It had all of my vacation photos and the playlist I'd listened to all summer.
My two copies of Suikoden that were taken from me. *fist shake*
Also my memories of a certain event in my life so I could finally know the truth of what happened that day. Maybe it is better if I didn't though.
Ohhh Suikoden II especially sooo much money lol
I have lost many things but the past is the past so I hope whoever decided to use my lost item ended up happy even if it was only temporary.
One of my old toys or books. And if you mean metaphorically, the guy I used to like.
I used to have a jar opener that I left at one of my previous apartments. Made life a lot easier.
I don't want to be a hoarder please take all this stuff back lol 😂
Three ginormous boxes of old Legos my dad was supposed to send me.
a ring I got after I lost my grandma. She was always wearing it. Feel so stupid for losing it :(
My grandmother only comes to my mind.
She's not a thing but still she's the only one I will want back.
I would look for money and Lego parts. If things that my parents throwed away without asking me count as lost, I would also pick up an old monitor and videos games.
When I was a young kid I played on my Nintendo DS a lot, and one game I particularly enjoyed was lego Star Wars. I lost it ages ago and every now and then I think about wanting to play it again. It’s a great game on its own, but if you enjoy lego and star wars it’s even better! (Mind you, that could just be the rose coloured glasses of nostalgia tainting my opinion)
If I had to guess were it went I’d say it’s at a friends house. I brought it to a sleep over and never saw it again. I doubt it was stolen so perhaps it’s still lost in the depths of their couch cushions.
My stuffed dog. I had ptsd nightmares every night snd that dog was with me she got me through most all of it tucked under my arm. I gave it to my sis when she moved away because I wanted her to feel safer with it. Her shit bag ex has it. I wouldn't kill for it but I'd probably vandalize for it.
My old phones. I'd like to go through the photos again. Or this book which my friend has "stolen" from me.
That gold and diamond eternity ring I found in a skip and lost well somewhere

Hope it’s in there.
I had a stuffed turtle when I was a baby and I lost it while at a dentist appointment
They’re not that bad. It’s not like they’re peeling your nails off
all my gold and silver stolen at flea markets and any money that I have lost

My sanity. WTF did that go?
Might be fun to have my youth back for a bit...
I honestly can't think of any particular item, so I'd probably would be very surprised while looking at things
