I am the same. I am worried about more realistic events like urban unrest, rather than fanciful ones like the zombie apocalypse or even a nuke war, the last of which, while potentially real, I don't think we can prepare for except spiritually.
A generator for a longer term power outage, stored fuel (be safe about this) and stored plastic water bottles by the case is ideal. My swimming pool could be a water supply, even though chlorinated to pool level water is not appealing. Guns and ammunition, for barter even if you don't know how to use them (although you SHOULD know how, it is a practical skill).
If you are a Costco or Sam's club or other "Big Box Warehouse Store" shopper, you probably already get in bulk (for economy savings) the following already anyway month in and month out:
--soup mix
---canned food or soup
--freeze dried food
--toilet paper
--soaps
-other non perishable things that can be bought in bulk
This could depend upon where you live, for instance, if you are in a floodplain, have high ground somewhere nearby. If you are close to a chemical refinery or other heavy industry, well, hazmat preparation might be a good idea if mindless Leftist goons attacked it in order to rob it, or eco-terrorists attacked it for their demented ideology, and poison gas spewed out. I am in sort of remote suburbia, not near any heavy industry. But I am near a state political capital, so urban unrest, of the AntiFa (ProComm) goon variety, is a possibility. I draw inspiration from Kyle Rittenhouse if they try to come to my burb.
Some people are into bugging out to a remote retreat, this might make sense in the inner cities if you have a reliable and durable escape transportation to get there, but as a suburban homeowner, I say no, dig in where you are, and make your suburban home your retreat. Now I am working in the office in an inner city often, so knowing good escape routes and small weapons for your person and the car are a good idea to get back to the suburban home retreat, depending upon what happens and when.
BJs is the big box warehouse store I go to. I buy water, toilet paper, bread, canned goods, rice and a few other items from there.
I'm working on getting a gun license and then I'll focus on getting a gun and everything else.
AND - if you have good neighbors in the burbs, get to know them. A Neighborhood Watch, a Welcome Wagon, a Block Party, can be a good thing. I know for some people this is hard, especially how atomized we all have become, but it is worth a try. He or she or they may disagree with you on Government Policy X or Lifestyle Y, but you all can agree you want the kids to play safely and no gangs coming into your burb.
I don't live in the burbs. I live in the inner city lol.
OK, you probably want a "bug out" retreat plan, unless lots of people in your apartment or condominium complex are on board with you. It might be a crowded retreat, but enough like minded people in one apartment or condo complex could theoretically work out.
I live in a house lol. It's just not in the suburbs. It's in a neighborhood with lots of other houses.
Well, that could STILL be a good Block Party or Neighborhood Watch situation. I realize many "big cities" like San Jose, where I grew up, were just "Mega Suburbs".
I think "inner city" when people and office buildings are stacked on top of each other and parking is hard to come by, that is, downtowns.
Lol you are literally describing my city
Ah, where is that, my dear?
Everybody should do it.
It's like a saving money, but then again most people don't even have that and would go broke in a month after losing their jobs.
I have food stored to last us for a year, 2 if we ration. Have a few guns and some gold here and there.
Also have some portable solar panels that fit in my bag, with battery banks. Meaning i wouldn't ever lose power when moving around. My bag has tons of useful ultralight stuff in it, on moments notice i could spend months outside or just have everything i need day to day.
Self sufficient solar setup at home, first aid cabinet and about a hundred medical ebooks, ranging from a dentist to brain surgery. The library consists tons of other ebooks too
Have also done bushcraft for over 20 years and had military training. And my body is fit.
Now am i a doomsday prepper? No, wouldn't say so.
It's better to be over prepared than under prepared.
I saw and lived through the bad times when our country was occupied by the Russians, after it collapsed, people were starving everywhere and had none. I also grew up poor.
I see it as it's my job to keep my family happy, safe and comfortable whatever times might come. Even during the corona food shortages, didn't even feel it.
Now the power pill went up 500% on average. A lot of people will probably need to sell their homes, oh well got solar, not connected to the grid at all.
Soon the financial crisis will hit, again, got coin and self sufficient.
Most people who just say, "then i will see" are just lazy and fooling themselves. They are just left to the elements, whatever happens happens.
If they get lucky good, if not dead.
Not a doomsday prepper but basic common sense for emergencies, dry food storage that would last about a month, even if it meant eating Ramon every day.
Two 55 gallon water barrels in my basement, a couple of filters to clean fluid so you can drink it if needed, probably the gross water in my barrels that has been sitting there for awhile. Technically they are so good you can filter your own urine and its cleaner than most water to drink again.
My concern is always water, as I go camping a lot... its easy to go through 60 gallons fast and we can only survive for three days without it. There just isn't a feasible way to store very much.
Two 72 hour kits and first aid kits, a generator I usually use for camping can be used for home emergencies, it would require it be running outside and a long extension cord going into the house to run things like the fridge. Oh and Yeti battery with a solar charger.
The ironic thing is most the camping stuff can double for an emergency. I would not have this much if I wasn't a avid camper. Last year I lived in my trailer for about six months doing the mobile life, since I could work from anywhere that had internet. That Yeti would run my work laptop for three days, without even charging it. Setup the solar panel and never needed to use my generator to work remotely.
The most important part though, is several different kinds of guns, from shotgun to rifles to hand guns with various ammo... so is someone comes and tries to take it all, they can't without a fight. Even though around here, its likely everyone would band together to stop any raiders from the city.
I don't think the guns are rhe most importantly thing, but they definitely are important to have. As well as other weapons.
It was more of a joke as people who don't prepare will say, they don't need to prepare they just go take it from someone who did prepare. I've actually heard that before.
Although there are wild turkeys around here, I could hunt them for food if needed. I even accidently ran over one with my atv once, had turkey for a few days... it just ran into the trail.
Yikes
Guns would be very important I have several and probably around 30 k assorted rounds. I carry a Colt 1911 and my favorite long guns are AKS I have several of those.
I have an emergency pack full of canned goods, water, flashlights/batteries etc incase there’s a serious earthquake as they’re common in my town.
But by doomsday I assume you mean an apocalyptic scenario, in which case I would be finding a way to knock myself off because I know for a fact I would not survive an apocalypse. The strongest survive, which isn’t me.
Lol well I just used the term because it's easier. But I just mean for any kind of catastrophic event.

I'm the very opposite.
For me going shopping is a daily ritual I just can't do without, I never keep groceries for longer than 5 days, and since I mostly buy fresh or order food crates twice a week, I barely have anything lasting in my pantry.
The only thing I have in abundance is pea batter and legumes, because I buy those in bulk online.
I have no canned goods except for two emergency rations of mushrooms, chilies and olives each.
So, technically, I wouldn't starve to death if the end of the world was to draw near, I'd just have to eat pea batter fried lentils every day.
My only salvation would be the stack of salmon fillets in my freezer, which I buy whenever they are on a good sale.
Fair enough
Yeah kinda. I may be more antisocial. I am building an off grid place I sold one place to buy another one with more resources. Drilled a well. Going to get off grid electric wired up too. I too keep bottled water and food stuffs. Medicine and first aid Hygiene stuff too. I’ve taught my sons survival skills and other things
After 2020 I decided to stock ip on things. I see a lot of crazy stuff in the world right now. Can you imagine if the power grid and internet went down. Then gas and the supply chain stopped. It wouldn’t be long til things went way south. Humans go feral quick when society breaks down.
Absolutely right! People would lose their shit
No, but much of what I do would serve me in a doomsday scenario. I keep a good bit of food in my pantry like rice, pasta, oats, canned chili/corn/beans and so on.
Bags of rice goes a long way for one person so my pants alone is several weeks of food worst case scenario. If I had to eyeball it. 3 months of food.
I don't have a backup generator which I've been meaning to get for the rare power outage we get sometime. That would be useful to save food in the fridge from going bad. But doomsday benefits are obvious.
We have multiple guns and tactical knives in my home for basic security anyways. Also good for doomsday. I don't have a bomb shelter. That's not something I'd really do. Guess I'm fucked if my house gets bombed
This reminds me of some of the discussions I had in 1999 as the world was coping with Y2K. A good friend went and purchased an expensive Generator. I asked him how long do you expect the power to be offline? How much gasoline do you plan to store? One of these things will go through a 5-gallon container a lot quicker than you understand. If you need power, does it also make sense the gas station won't be able to pump? There is a difference between keeping good sense stocks and hoarding! If our society gets to the point it totally breaks down are you ready to feed the army you are going to need to protect it? Common sense should rule the day. You can't store enough gasoline! Remember gasoline generally loses its ability to power an engine after about 6 months. Keep stocks, but honestly I rather not live in a post-apocalyptic world. If I know nukes are headed my way and I have time I am going to get as close to ground zero as I can. I rather let you "smart" people fight it out later!
Well, being a broke college kid means that I am one by default. 90% of what I cooked is canned food anyway because it's cheap and convenient. I freeze bread, and buy water in bulk. I even plan on getting a filter to save the water cost. Oh, and I don't leave much except for classes, shopping or going to the gym.
Lol I've lived that broke college kid life
Yes I'm very similar to you, I like to keep bulk dry goods, rice and beans, I have a freezer full of meat, ample amount of canned goods. I have a gun safe full of firearms, if I don't have it I can get it shit hits the fan sometime. I also have a place to bug out to
I'm working on the gun
You need more than one, I have somewhere in the range of 30
But one is better than none
Well yeah, gotta start somewhere.
There's only one thing that is required for the end of the world and only one thing that will save us from it and bring us into the eternal state of the new one, and that is to know Jesus Christ. If you know and follow the Lord you don't have anything to fear.
Who said anything about fear? It's only gonna get worse before it gets better. May God grant you wisdom 🙏🏾
That notorious historical Rake Benjamin Franklin quipped in his 'Poor Richard's Almanac' the wisdom that: -"You should hope for the best but to expect the worst; and you'll NEVER be disappointed."
"Always keep your clothes and your arms where you can find them in the dark"... Robert Heinlein's hero 'Lazarus Long' from "Time Enough For Love"
As 'true' NOW as was back then!
not living in fear, but stock up to some degree. have to admit... the war drums are being beaten more loudly and power shifts and order changes are reality.
the response times of military and officials have been reduced due to progression of weapon speed. Easy to make a mistake... small mistakes can become large ones. hope for the best, plan for bad... makes some sense.
I cannot say that I am a Doomsday prepper, but I do manage all of my online accounts to the point of double authentication, ultra complex passwords and all other things that can be there to make an account secure.
I also read T&C of any website I feel like so that I know what I am getting into.
Not much since I'd live a year at most without my medication and go insane when it all runs out after a month. I'd scavenge and avoid conflict in that time but the longer I go without psychiatric medication that I require for me to not go insane, the worse I'd get until I was kicking doors down and killing people.
Fantasize about how you'd stop me all you want, none of you will have a chance as even if I just graze the stomach, you'll die a slow and painful death from infection and I won't fear death at that point so you shooting at me won't deter me at all. So support law and order to prevent this doomsday scenario rather than fantasizing about gunfights with your neighbor in which neither of you will survive and if you do, you won't when I go insane
You are so dark and twisted. Jesus.
I don't think no matter how the world ends, we won't stop it but who knows, some people make caves underground and that is like where the US President and other politicians go in case the States are being bombed by nuclear or chemical warfare yes it does happen I think it's fine to be a Doomsday person my cousin is one?
Yes.
We all keep a backpack of clothes and necessary survival items in our car. 4 of us. 4 backpacks. Been stashing all kinds of weapons too aside from the usual canned goods and medicine.
The backpack in the car thing is smart. Gonna tell my sister to start doing that. She already keeps like water and stuff in there.
No. I don’t believe in a dooms day. It’s more like a slow dooms decade. So Pre planning for that seems a bit more rational and possible.
Lol im preparing for the inevitable
I think a lot about my future but mostly the positives. I’ll face the negatives if it happens. But im naturally a person with backup plans B-Z on deck
Prepping is basically having "plans B-Z".
We’ve survived 3 month long hurricanes without prepping. Im not too worried but maybe one day i’ll look more into it
Lol no you won't but ok.
I prepare for things to go bad but not neccessary thinking its doomsday. Like I keep weapons and ammo because I dosen't take an economist to know how fucked our economy is going to be after 4 years of biden. And no one is looting my ass unless they put me in a body bag. But I also keep a good supply of water and emergency food because sometimes the weather takes a shit on you.
Even trump fucked the country in some ways
@tango_mango Economy was doing great under Trump.
Never claimed trump was perfect. Just that he was waaaay better than biden.
Yes I guess you could say I am, without going into detail for obvious reasons, if you're a prepper you'll understand why. I have everything I need stocked and in rotation, and I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse 🤣
No, but I understand. I think the underground bunkers are pretty cool looking
Lmao
yeah nt at all lol. if shit hits the fan we are pretty screwed.
i guess the good thing is my mom was a nurse so we at least have first aid and medical supplies in our home if needed.
I mean first aid is pretty important
indeed it is. but we don't have stockpiles of food or water or anything lol. so on that end we are screwed
Lol I mean you can build little by little.
I am but not just for "doomsday" I live 60 miles from town in a extremely high fire area in CA. I am prepared and have enough to continue living exactly as I am for 3 months I could easily stretch that to 6 months if it truly was a doomsday.
