Other than smell, can you describe one or two things that remind you of your grandparents' house (s)?

It could be any little details like some decoration or the yard or a little quirk.

Boy, there are so many things for both houses. They were very different. On my dad's side, I would have to say that it's the yard. My grandpa was meticulous about his yard. The front yard had pine trees around it, and the backyard was on a lower level with pear trees, that then went down to an alley. There was also an addict that my dad used as his bedroom when he was there. You had to get to it by going through a closet.

On my mom's side, I would have to say that it's inside the house, especially the kitchen. It was tiny and rectangular so that one end had a door that went out to a little porch. So if you entered the kitchen from the porch and made an immediate left that would take you to the dining room. If you entered from the porch and went straight ahead, there were some sketchy steps that led down to a cellar. She always had some cast iron trivets with little sayings on them hanging on the wall. I have those now. One of them says " Wherever you wander, wherever you roam, be happy and healthy and glad to come home.". Another one says "Be happy, for every minute you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of happiness." She also had one tiny bathroom upstairs, that you always had to jiggle the handle on the toilet. That became sort of a running joke; "Jiggle the handle!" The street (Avenue) that runs in front of the house is right next to the Allegheny River. So she is right across the street from the river. She used to call it her waterfront property.😂 This is a coal/steel area in Pennsylvania, so there were always these heavy steel trucks rumbling by and downshifting as they prepared to make a corner and then go up a bridge to cross the river. So relaxing. 😀
