So I worked overtime last week, and my check was fat! Then I seen what my check was supposed to be before I was taxed🤦🏽♀️💀, pissed? How do you feel when that happens?

Okay, so some business tax you based upon your earning from pay period to pay period. So it is important that you understand how it effect your end of the year filings based upon your W2.
So say your regular salary is 5 dollars and that puts you in tax bracket A at 10%. But then in one pay period you do over time and you earn 15 dollars and someone who earns 15 dollars is supposed to be in tax bracket B at 15%. So they take out more taxes right? then in the next pay period you only earn the 5 dollars back in tax bracket A at 10%
Well it does not really matter what they withhold from pay period to pay period, what really matter is what is on your W2 at the end of the year. Given your deductions... based upon your W2 they will tax you based upon your annual earning, and set your tax bracket for year based upon your total earnings, so if you over paid you will get a tax return and if you under paid you will get a tax bill.
I worked for Amazon once upon a time, and my salary was $80,000. So they withheld taxes at a set rate according to my $80,000 annual salary no mater what I earned in any given pay period. Well after all the over time got calculated into my earning at the end of the year I actually earned $120,000. So I ended up owning $6,000 in back taxes because at $120,000 I should of been paying taxes at the next higher tax bracket... but Amazon did not adjust that from period to pay period.
That screwed a lot of employees because they didn't save all that money or factor it into the end of the year filings, because they thought the taxes where being withheld, and at the end of the year they got a tax bill and didn't have enough cash on hand to pay it.
Like I agree it's not fun to see taxes taken out.
But my issue wasn't necessarily the amount, but what it's used for. If I'm going to pay 25% of my income, it had better go to a service I can use, or to helping Americans worse off than me.
So like, when it goes to oil subsidies or is used to justify billionaire tax breaks or bailing out Wall St., I'd rather just see my taxes cut.
If it's going to universal healthcare, roads, or important research that doesn't already have a market incentive, then I don't mind it because I'm still benefitting from it.
I wonder if, for both libertarians and social democrats' sakes, these services should be a subscription model. Pay the road subscription percentage or have to use toll booths everywhere. Pay the healthcare subscription percentage or pay unregulated healthcare prices.
Not sure if that'll make things better or worse. But at least it's trying to tackle both sides of the argument.
Im used to losing about $300 to taxes. Im more annoyed that my job pushes us to use vacation and sick time but they only pay you like half a day per fay of those you take. I guess i should be blessed to even get that cause some jobs dont even pay for vacay/sicktime but it would be nice to have had that warning ahead of time. I’ve been there for years but this is the first time imm noticing the pay for those days (I guess cause i hardly took them) but i dont think its always been that way. I think the pay changed when 2022 hit.
Bruh🤣 we need to find a man and have kids. The fact that we're single with no kids we are hit hard with taxes. I dont use my sick or vacation time either so I just cash it out. If you don't use it within a certain time frame your job has to pay you out for it. That's most likely why it's on your check.
In the new handbook for 2022 my job claims they no longer have to pay out if we quit or are fired. Told you they crooked af. And man or not, i’m having kids. Im just trying to get the right body fit so that im prepared to give birth
That's with most jobs. They really don't have to pay out your pto if you quit or are fired. That's why I cash mines out after 3 months. Then accumulate again to cash out
Yes i pretty much dont take vacation. Out of the 3.5 years i worked there, I've only taken it for a few days in 2018 and a few days in 2019
Then gurl go extempt then Cash Out. Other wise if you're fired or quit they keeping all that money. And if you go extempt federal won't tough the money only state which is lower tax rate. So you'll get majority of your monet
I make more money just going to work when im supposed to. Thats my 100%. Vacay only pays 50-75% so its less money either way
Girl doesn't matter take the money it's yours. why would you allow them to take something away away you earned?
Because jobs are not required to give vacation pay. Those who do give it as a substitute pay in place of a day you missed. And you only get a portion of a full days income. Its not worth it. Like i said my job doesn't pay out at the end if you quit so its not worth missing a day only to receive half a days pay
My vacation time aka pto is accumulated from my work hours. When I work hours are automatically credited to pto. Is your job like that?
I dont take off but I do cash my vacation out. You don't have to take off to use up vacation time. You just ask your employer to cash it out into your paycheck whenever it accumulates
Like i said this gov job is crooked af. They dont don nunna that. You get 80 hours vacay a year. Before 2022 hit, you could cash out only if you quit or were fired. Otherwise you had to use it. Since 2022 hit, their new handbook says you cannot be paid out the vacay when fired or quitting. So end of the day, we use it or lose it. But the pay is still not a full 100% of what a workshift would be. Also, my job doesn't allow you to choose your vacay month. We only have 3 free months and you have to choose one of those months to take your vacay
What!!! Girl are u serious?
Thats why i said im not doing anymore federal jobs once i quit this shit. They crooked af and can do u any kinda way cause theyre the mf government
Yeah I'd let them go but their 401k is the best
Yes i slick regret not doing the 401k since im here this damn long. Buf im really bout to be out after this year, maybe this summer. The job is just too hard now and im bout to quit regardless of if i have a backup plan
Yes should've got that girl. My mom worked for the government and was able to retire off their 401k in 10 years
Im retiring by 50 regardless lmao
I understand the reasoning behind it but I don't like it at all.

I keep saying taxes are too high, but most people don't care... I'm at 53% of my gross income, and I'm not just talking income taxes, but all the other kinds people don't track. I track sales tax, property taxes and all the taxes they mislabel as fees.
Pissed, you worked that extra time and that moves you up into a different tax bracket and they take all your damn money. It wasn't worth working the extra hours, your gross pay was a hell of a lot more but your take-home pay was the same as working the normal hours
Like a Slave to Government and/or the Liberal-Communist…. Democratic Socialists Party of America and their free-money over working Constituents.
Once a quarter for me like a continuous Nightmare ‼️
@OpenClose Keep believing your Media "fairytale USA".
No idea what you mean and OBVIOUSLY a talker and not Doer.
I've got investment property in developing world, SE Asia where my Margins far surpass anything in USA. It cost me 28,000 USD for large commercial space bottom (Apple store sized) AND (5) 1/1 upstairs.
No matter what your point is, you have NO CLUE. And you are 30..."DUDE", I'm younger than you are...
Dude you sound unhinged af.
Protip, people take your arguments more seriously when presented calmly. With lots of ad-hominems and exclamation point emojis, it brings the legitimacy of your investment property claim into question, and makes it sound like blowing smoke.
I'd be curious where in SE Asia you got an investment property for 28k. Not necessarily because I'm skeptical, but because I'm interested. I didn't think much of Asia got that cheap, due to population density.
You have to pay for all of the lazy asses that don't want to will not work so they don't do without
@OpenClose the ceos and bankers don't pay anything because they itemize their deductions. It has nothing to do with us
As they say the more you make the more they take so you better find some tax deductions & get your money back.
Yeah I did. I filed my income taxes getting my money back
Not really, I understand their use and importance in providing the essential shared services everyone uses.
Yeah. They withhold a lot with overtime and bonuses. I think it’s 22% for both, which means a day and a half of work goes to federal taxes alone. You’ll get it back in your tax return in only 11 months. 🙄
That's why I don't look at that part lol. Some people even argue that overtime really isn't "worth it" because it's even more taxes they take, but I don't know about that. It's always been worth it still to me lol
luckily, tax is already subtracted right away. so it says still on my bill what i would have gotten but i never see that before the actual money gets on my account xD
In the UK I know that if I've overpaid on my tax allowance in one financial year, I will receive a tax rebate cheque in the next year as my over payment of tax is sorted out.
Tax brackets are a bitch. My overtime usually ends up to an additional 250 after taxes.
💔 shatters my heart into a million pieces and leaves my dad and upset for the rest of the day
I ignore that bit as it was never mine the butcher always gets his bill
Taxes is how the government is able to give out "FREE" stuff.
They take it from you and give it to someone else.
Welcome to reality.
I agree our check is given to a bunch of people collecting government assistance
Yeah, it pissed me off cause minimum wage back in the 80's was horribly low
Yeah. Taxes definitely fucks everyone. There is no dumb about it. And there is nothing anyone can do about it
It doesn't but then I basically earn nothing either as a business or as a personal income
Yeah. I am salary and lose 35% of my check no matter what.
Yes, taxes take care of a lot of money that you otherwise could use for yourself. Only rich people don't have to pay taxes.
Also pissed. The governments of the world are the biggest thieves going. #TaxationIsTheft
Somebody has to pay for all the free stuff.
This is why I am in favor of a 5% flat tax.
This is how the government allows the super rich avoid taxes.
Sir, that is not true. The rich avoid taxes through itemized deductions
I’ve had 15 years to get used to it.
