Can you help me choose between two colleges?

Question

The first one is very beautiful from the outside. I haven’t looked inside the actual university. It’s only 30 minutes from my house. The only downside is there’s lack of diversity. I’m black which definitely plays a big part in that. I’ve also heard how the students are extremely racist. I don’t know them personally, but when I was looking at them; I got a very “snobby, rich popular kid” vibe from all of them.

The second one is beautiful outside and inside, not as beautiful as the first one. The people all seem to be very down to earth and nice. There’s a lot of diversity and support. They have these food delivery robots. I also have a friend who goes there. But the only downside is it’s 3 hours away from home. My grandma said she could take me home every weekend if i’d like. But I’m afraid of missing my baby sister. She’s only one years old and yeah i’ll be able to call, but I don’t wanna miss her growing up. But I also don’t wanna go to a college close by and encounter racism

Your descriptions of the two colleges are very superficial, and you don't mention cost. Most colleges are picked using primarily two criteria: the field you want to study, what degree do you want to get that's going to help you in your future career; and cost, can you afford the college (include any scholarships, work-study programs, etc.)

When my 3 kids were electing college at your age, they picked 5 colleges that they would like to attend. All had the programs they were interested in, and were affordable. Each of my kids had great college experiences that led to the careers each is in now.

Your black, well then nice profile pic... that's the pot calling the kettle black. Is this a real post or did you cut and paste some bullshit and read it through? Or do you have insecurities about race?

Honestly it doesn't matter what college you go to as long as you get the degree... so I would chose the cheapest one that allows you the most affordable housing options... your hung up on some things that I think you need to get over. If you have some insecurities about race you better confront that early on in your life or it will haunt you every where you go.

I think you are looking at the criteria of the college's the wrong way, you need to choose a college based on how well it is going to educate you and provide for you needs. I doesn't matter what the place looks like if it's a good college and will serve you well. I do think going to a college with diversity is important for everyone, and the issue with your sister, well I understand that it would be difficult but this is your future your looking at here. Most people are only going to have one shot at getting a good college education, choose your college for the right reasons.

Connections with wealthy people are very helpful in business. It sucks, but the reality is that the people who control where investments go don’t treat people equally, but tend to pick their friends and contacts. This is why the school near your home is perhaps the better choice. I doubt racism will be as much of an issue as, if it is the case, that you are not rich. But there are probably a lot of nice people there too. You could save on rent (which is rising fast due to inflation) by living at home too.

I would suggest going to the college where your grandma could get you but take turns visiting your little baby sister, too bad you weren't in Pennsylvania there are colleges that are not allowed to have racism it's a crime.. Sorry you are up against this :) 🤗

I picked between 2

One was a 30 minute train ride but it was too glossy and smelt new but felt superficial

The other was close to 2 hours away by train in the opposite direction but was a dated tower block and I fell for it the moment I set foot on a carpet made of chewing gum

I picked the second and met two of my longest standing friends in the process

here's a wild and crazy idea but have you actually looked into the cirriculums at each college? you still need the 120 credits to graduate with either a BA or BS or some other undergrad degree. did you do research on the teachers/professors there and how they are with the students? instead of worrying about your liberal ideas and racism and all that bullshit how about focusing on the actual classes and what they consist of and who's teaching them
