I am actually. In a lot of ways it’s quite appealing to imagine yourself living in much simpler times, but also a lot more dangerous and lawless times too. When I think of cowboys, I think specifically to the late 19th century coming up to the start of the 20th century, where you can see more and more evidence of technological advances and law encroaching into all parts of society. I think of people using horses as primary means of travel, more people carrying weapons as personal protection, and overall being more independent in their lives. The government wasn’t as much of a force of control and governing as it is today, so I think the term “wild west” is fitting for these times where many did what they want, lived how they wanted, etc.

Nothing wrong with great hats and outfits, horse riding et al. I love watching rodeo too. Those are some tough guys and the women who ride the barrels are amazing!
I have yet to buy a fancy pair of boots and another cowgirl hat. I do have one. The best of the culture is great.
I had the boots and my ex girlfriend bought me a fancy hand tooled belt with a cool buckle. I could not see wearing a cowboy hat when I was really a boat guy.
@exitseven I could easily wear a cowgirl outfit while handling the sheets on a sailboat. I see no conflict of interest! Might have to trade the boots for topsiders, though.
@Screenwriter there was a pretty popular t-shirt that was around way back when that showed a guy wearing a coboy hat and it said "I'm not really a cowboy, I just found the hat."
@exitseven I'm a cowgirl, a sailor, a surfer, a scuba diver, a writer, a joker, a stoker a midnight toker... playin my music in the suuuunnnn... oops...
I like the accents, the plaid shirts, and the supposed gentlemanness. Thats about it. Not big on the horseriding, boot wearing, gun-toating mamas boy type
@user1516 I believe that my favorite Western was actually the miniseries Lonesome Dove. It has a great cast!

No. I find it offensive since the original idea of a cowboy came from Vaqueros (buckaroos like white people like to call them). I grew up with a vaquero dad who wore the charro boots and everything because he owned his own ranch and it was his thing. So, seeing white people wear it really annoys me because they just adopted our culture for no reason.
The Vaqueros wouldn't be a thing without European influence. Thats what you got when you messed Iberian peoples with the native population of what is now mexico. You wouldn't even have a Mexico without a clash of cultures. Mexico is a hybridized culture with influences from it's ancient past but also European and American influences. America and Mexico frequently exchange ideas with one another and I think that's swell tbh.
"The vaquero (Spanish pronunciation: [baˈkeɾo], Portuguese: vaqueiro Portuguese pronunciation: [vaˈkejɾu]) is a horse-mounted livestock herder of a tradition that has its roots in the Iberian Peninsula and extensively developed in Mexico from a methodology brought to Latin America from Spain. The vaquero became the foundation for the North American cowboy. The vaqueros of the Americas were the horsemen and cattle herders of New Spain, who first came to California with the Jesuit priest Eusebio Kino in 1687, and later with expeditions in 1769 and the Juan Bautista de Anza expedition in 1774. They were the first cowboys in the region."
Also I don't know why it would bother you seeing white people wear something not from their culture. My girlfriend is from El Salvador. I've dressed in the traditional clothing before because I'm paying homage to her culture. If you were long pants that's something invented in Northern Europe. But idc if you wear it because it doesn't matter, it's irrelevant. I don't care that plenty of Mexicans opened up Pizza shows in the USA portraying it as Authentic Italian either. Again it's not the point. The point is there's a passion and love for something and who are we to judge what makes someone happy?
For a while I was into this. It was wayback after the Urban Cowboy movie came out. I always felt that I live by some kind of code of the west and I guess I still do.
I dont trust the horse so much. I know how to ride one as far as "I've read a whole book on the history of horseback riding and practical applications with and without spurs." Buuuut I dont want to chance it since I'm a big boy. heh-heh...
It takes working with a good horse and lots of progressive training, but those who do it love it and it’s fun to watch. I have several vintage Colt single actions in my dead relative gun collection. A couple of them have been used in both SASS and CMSA events.
yeah but they are things of beauty and the loading and reloading and the extra steps make it more... of an experience (just my opinion). Would I carry one for personal protection? no. But I would certainly go backpacking with one maybe.
