What does it mean when the guy your dating says your like family to him?

So like a friend of mine is dating this guy for a while and she told me that he said to her that she is like family to him. She asked me what do I think and I told her that I thought it was sweet.

I actually lied to her about what I really thought, I really did think it was actually kinda odd or a turn off in my perspective.. Anyways what do you guys think? Thanks.

Let's assume he likes his family! I'm guessing he didn't mean she was a sister. I'm guessing he meant she felt very familiar and would totally fit into his family. But you can take it a number of ways.

Probably more the type of woman he would take home to family and she would fit in. Means a lot to him.

Could mean several things.
On it's face it sounds like he sees you as someone close but not available for anything other than a relationship.
Kinda like "I like you as a friend."
