How do you think this term will affect the course of a case?
Before a trial commences, the attorneys will submit paperwork to the judge that describes the areas of questioning they intend and the evidence they plan to submit. The judge will review all this and decide what is within the law and what isn't, and give the attorneys limits and boundaries, as well as excluding certain evidence that is either not relevant or is prejudicial. This sets the rules of the trial.
If an attorney starts asking questions that violate the rules, the opposing attorney can object, and the judge will either sustain the objection or overrule it. If the objection is sustained, the witness does not have to answer the question - if it's overruled, he does.
If you watched the Amber Turd trial, there was a witness that Amber's attorney Elaine was trying to ask a question, but she could not ask it in a way that was within the rules. That didn't stop her from trying, though, and it she spent almost 20 minutes trying to rephrase her question and having the defense's objections sustained by the judge. She looked like an idiot - especially when she asked the question the exact same way 3 or 4 times and kept getting shot down. Judges view that as either antagonistic or incompetent - I'd go with the latter in this case, and I would be shocked if Elaine has much of a legal career after that performance. The judge visibly rolled her eyes more than once.

What does ‘objection sustained’ mean in court?
"Objection sustained" is a phrase used by judges in response to objections raised by lawyers during a trial. The phrase means that the objection is valid and the judge sustains it, which means that the lawyer cannot continue with their line of questioning.

Inthe course of a trial certain statements are made that the opposing side object to. The judge either Sustaoins the objection or Overules. Sustaining an objection means that the judge agrees with the objection. If he says Overuled it meansthat the Judge does not agreewith the objecting and that the statement will be allowed. Its affect dpends on to many variables to answer the second part of the question.
it just means that an objection usually uttered by one sides attourney is accepted by the judge. so that means the other parties team must abide by that objection. if the judge says "overruled", the other sides atorney doesn't have to listen to the objection. it usually happens a whole lot. can sometimes do nothing, sometimes a lot.
It means a judge agrees with the side that raised the objection, that the other attorney is INTENTIONALLY trying to mislead a jury, with a line of questioning that is either irrelevant, unconstitutional or beyond the scope.
Objection overruled means an invalid objection.
Objection sustained means that particular objection is a valid objection according to law.
You need an attorney for this kind of advice...
It means that the testimony objected is inadmissible as evidence, for example bring up characteristics of a defendant that are irrelevant to their guilt but which may prejudice the jury.
It means that the judge agrees with the objection. He's making a ruling that the line of questioning was improper under the rules of evidence.
It means that question can't be asked. Who knows how it affects the case, it depends on the question
I think it means it's time to take a break for lunch
It means that the objection raised is valid, and the attorney who is speaking can't continue in their vein of questioning or rhetoric.
@rocket When a judge says "objection sustained", it means questions brought by an attorney are invalid.
