What would you do to stay sharp and avoid getting lazy, if you won a major lottery and never had to work again?

Someone recently won the biggest jackpot in history. That's the first time I ever bought a lottery ticket. The odds of winning a jackpot like that is lower that 1 in 300,000,000.

I fantasized some. I would've started flying lessons, bought a ranch and a nice telescope, and went back to school and majored in music. If I went back to school and studied music, it would keep me sharp and active, and gotten me some gigs and music students once I got out. Of course I would get a financial planner and take care of by family.

If you won a major lottery jackpot, what would you do to avoid laziness and boredom that would likely come from being on vacation the rest of your life?

Casting the subject of philanthropy to the side simply to avoid that controversy, addressing your question as stated, I'd do as I have done in the years that I've been retired, only with having no need to make limiting choices.

As you stated with your own suggestions, I explore my interests, expanding my knowledge, skills and experiences, sharing those experiences with, and absorbing the knowledge and experiences of those who have similar interests.

That approach to life has served me well enough.

I had the same thoughts about what I'd do. The first 18 to 24 months would be dealing with the attorneys and financial planners and getting the money settled to where I can use it and put it to work and establishing a foundation. Concurrent with that, I'd be building a house.

After about the two-year mark, I'd go back to school, get whatever degrees are required, and I want to teach. Either English and Strategic Communications at a university, or English and History in a local middle school.

I don’t think it would change me much. I’d definitely keep it hidden. Traveling is easily hidden… 😁

There is a VERY ugly underbelly with regard to these Games. I can't find the article, but according to research going back to the early winners. The average lotto winner is broke, estranged from their family and what were once friends. I would not quit my job. I would invest 90% of the money and not change my lifestyle much. Sure, get a house. If you are still young go back to school if you desire. Just don't stop being productive. Doing so will put you in an early grave.

If I got 1 Billion, I would give 99% of that money to farmers and building hospitals.

enroll in univeristy and study a thing that matters to me. and if i'm done with that, i'll study the next thing. education is an entirely different beast, if you don't "have" to do it cause you wanna make money later. also maybe try to start a small business around a hobby. probably woodworking, restauration or metalworking for commission.

I'd put some money into studying something else and use the rest to invest in stocks and shares. therefore if I ever wanted to buy something else, I can't do it and therefore forces me to work hard.

The same stuff I'm already doing. Winning that cash wouldn't change me much at all because I'm not a money-based person. I'd LOVE to be filthy rich but NOT out of greed!!

I'd use the money to launch a series of start ups I've already planned but need funding for.

It sure would be nice to take ten or twenty years off my timeline.
