There are probably a lot of factors that come into consideration when you talk about a certain income. If you live in a remote area where costs of living are low, then that kind of income is enormous. If you live in a big and expensive city like London, New York or Tokyo, then no, this is probably not enough to make ends meet.
For me, this is an enormous amount and I honestly don't need that kind of high income. I am happy with half or 2/3 of that amount because I don't have very high overhead expenses.
I don't party, I very seldom go out, I have a minimum of clothing, I have no car or expensive hobbies and my only expenses are my old bike and the costs of renting a small apartment as well as the regular basic insurance. My cell phone is a 1992 Nokia 1011 with a prepaid card.
40K a year is ideal and I don't really need more. For what?
What job are you doing and what kind of training have you had to have to get that job? Salaries are relative to what field you're in, if you're entry, mid or advanced in your field and what kind of degrees or training you've had.
That's a decent salary. Studies show that $75k/year for a household is like the most money you can earn before you stop being happier by earning more. You're $15k off of that, so you're doing well for yourself.
People don't feel any happier at $100k than they do at $75k... life is pretty good.
A lot of people think that they need to make at least six figures in order to be considered successful. However, this is not always the case. A lot of people seem to think that $60,000/year is just enough to get by. But many people are perfectly happy making 60k per year.

a lot depends on what the cost of living is in your area.
NY City, LA, San Francisco for starters no.
Down south yes.
You're young and it is a good starting wage.
Depends on where you live and what you do and your experience and education. Most places I've lived that would be inadequate unless you live with someone.
Eh not really. Even my direct supervisor makes more than that per year.
It's not enough to live off of due to inflation and the housing market prices exploding, but it might be okay to start
Depends upon where you live, but in most places it should be fine.
Depends on currency, kiddo.
Good enough to be hanging around here.
It's good but not great.
How about some context?
Where?
Good :)
