Guys & girls - why do you like the design of modern day houses. There's no character, they're built all alike, and inside look so simplistic?

I have never lived in a modern house - which itself is so cheaply made friends that work in construction call them timberboxes waiting to go.

But it's not the shoddy construction why.

It's the dull design. There's no character, nothing that makes old homes unique. The 'design' of modern homes is four walls, floor & room... sort of like a prison cell. And built like a prison cell because everything is cut flat, square and without actual design to wood, etc.

By modern houses I obviously mean houses built within the last 10 years, 20 at the most.

I’m not sure what sorts of “modern” houses you’re talking about.. do you mean rich people homes? Where all the walls are white and there’s too much space in the house to fill, so it ends up looking lifeless and like a prison, as you say. I don’t get that. But I do like modern houses in my country. They’re not big prison-feeling boxes with rooms. Modern houses here, only mean that they’re up to code in terms of housing requirements. So they still have character to them.

I used to live in New Zealand, the modern day houses are they don't have any character they are cut clean and they have no design to the wood, no design to the frame no design to nothing it is a very dull and construction very much like you get enough America

I don't like today's home. I find them boring and I also don't trust them either. They get built way too quick and within a year the houses start to have problems because the builders and contractors decided to take short cuts to save money. I also don't like them because of how close they are built to the neighbours home and the tiny backyards.

I agree. What I hate the most is when realtors tear down perfectly gorgeous houses with tons of character just to create a soulless modern house with all the life sucked out of it

I agree, I hear they are called cookie cutter homes. Very boring.
