How did you celebrate your birthday as a kid?

Here in Sweden we fish candy😭. We would have candy bags behind a blanket we hanged up and then we would fish them up one by one😂. Its probblaby commen in other places too I dont know.. And then we used to have a small swedish flag next to our seat. Those days when parties were fun😌

my parents would let me open one present in the morning and would pack me a special lunch for school, plus buy me a cake to bring to school to celebrate my bday in class. that day i wouldn't go to after school program i'd go home early, then when my dad got back from work we'd go to a thai restaurant and eat there. the thai owners were super nice and would make a small thai cake for me every year for free with the candles and everything. when i'd get back home then i'd open all my presents. the week end my parents would get me a bigger birthday cake that i'd eat at home and have with the late bday presents (my family lives all over the place so there was always some) and the two ish gifts my parents kept secret for that day, and would Skype my granparents and stuff so they could watch me blow my cake. then i'd also have a different bday party with friends and people from school. could be before or after my actual bday. like my parents would rent a room at places like amusement parks, kiddie lands or laser tag places, and i'd usually invite all my friends plus usually the whole class too. they'd have to bring gifts and stuff and we'd eat cake at some point, and when they'd leave would give them goodie bags with candy and stuff. some times i had even another bday party with just my close friends which was generally at home if some couldnt make it to my other one which happened a lot cos if i remember correctly one lived very far away and her parents were both cops so it was complicated, and one was a child actress or something like that. also my parents would still treat me like the 2ish days following my bday by taking me to pizza hut, buying me an ice cream, giving me a bigger allowance that week

I was born July 1st which is Canada day. Most times I was forgotten in the Canada day celebrations.

My birthday is on school days. So my parents would distribute some fast food for lunch with my classmates and have me blow the cake there. That is pretty much a tradition here. Unless if my birthday lands on a weekend, we celebrate at home and get some presents at home. We have a children's party with a clown, games and food then open presents. It was fun but I don't see how birthdays are so special now.
