Do other countries face dyslexic tendencies?

So, after going over an opinion on here (ensuring it wasn’t (seemingly) offensive in nature), posted for @purplepoppy ’s question:

Should we use the letters æ and œ more in English?

(check it out ^^)

I wondered something else..

Do other language-speaking Countries face a similar dilemma, known to some, as Dyslexia?

OR

is ‘Dyslexia’ only common in English? Is it known/dealt with in ‘American English,’ as well as ‘Traditional English?’ Perhaps where they have letters that look alike? Or do other people with different languages face similar issues?

Tamil, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian, etc. etc.

- I also forget if dyslexia is something with the brain and forms of learning, or if it’s just a logical mistake from not knowing the difference between identical letters.

In most cases it's how the brain is wired, like ADHD, colour blindness or autism. It's not a choice and it's not something you can just stop being.

Neurotypical types can't comprehend what neurodivergent people experience on a daily basis. I'm ADHD so I can only speak from that perspective, but imagine having so many thoughts screaming through your head simultaneously you can't differentiate the essential from the trivial. So you develop patterns to let you cope. But nobody else can see the pattern!

I have a couple of dyslexic friends. They told me to imagine the letters walking around the page and just sitting when they feel like it. I tried, but I don't get it. Neither is English as their natural language.

It's a learning problem as far as I know. People who have difficulty in reading, understanding the alphabets, numbers and find it hard to learn are called dyslexic. They tend to have a weak memory in terms of processing information in their mind.
Never heard that it's got a meaning related to languages.

Thanks for this! I like this a lot. I wasn’t trying to give it some meaning with language, but I want to ask you. Based on what you said, do you think other cultures of people face this with their language learning? If they have the weak memory as you said?

Only if they had that. Like does it cross over?

Yeah I believe it's not confined to English. Since it's a brain condition, it could be a person of any country speaking xyz language.

A dyslexic friend explained it as looking at the word "nowhere" and seeing both "now here" and "no where" at the same time.

I mix up numbers too so it probably isn't limited to English

That’s highly interesting! I forget a lot of bits of information myself. (Not to seem self absorbed, but to try and relate).
I wonder if there’s different names for the act of forgetting certain things, at different ages in life?

Like those with Alzheimer’s are older (above 50 usually)? And they forget everything up to human identification.

So I wonder if mixing up and forgetting the distinction of letters and numbers, or really just seeing their likeness, is dyslexic, and found in people of just about any age or younger (until they possibly master it)

And then those who forget general information at any age just idk… there’s no word other than bad memory 😂

It’s interesting because Alzheimer’s is considered memory loss

Dyslexic is lacking distinction and seeing similarity until the muscle memory is strengthened (dyslexia mastered)

And general forgetting of info is considered “poor memory” where those have to also try and master the act of transitioning information from short term memory to long term memory.

Alzheimer's is forgetting things that you shouldn't forget like your name or your kids. It is on another level than just poor memory.

I have to agree with you on that. I’m glad you said it this way because it’s just that: something that hinders or disables a person from learning/ accepting new information. As like a new set of logic. Thanks for this share 🙏
