Doctors office sent me a bill a year later?

I got a call from a collection agency to pay a $30 copay. I guess at the time they weren't able to collect my copay in person, but I'm a little irritated they didn't just call me and say hey we still need you to pay this. What would happen if I didn't pay this small of an amount? I called the doctors office and said i'd pay them over the phone, but they said they couldn't do that and I had to pay the collection agency directly. Honestly, if the doctors office already wrote it off as a loss, then what's the point of paying?

I mean I get they want their money, but if they waited this long then clearly it ain't that important to them. Plus sending it to collections over 30 bucks? Pretty lame if you ask me.

I probably wouldn't waste my time paying. What are they really gonna do, ruin your credit over three measly tens? I doubt it.

If they try to send more collectors, tell 'em to kick rocks. One nasty email about illegal strong-arm tactics and they'll back off real quick, trust.

Plus you ain't seeing that doctor no more right? So who cares what they think. It's not like they can refuse future service or anything.

I wouldn't even bother paying. We don't even bother collections for anything under $5k because $5k is the break even point. The only reason to go to collections under $5k is to destroy someone credit score

I had $300 go to collections and it dropped my credit score 200 pts. It was a bank error on an old loan and cleared up quickly but it delayed the purchase of my last house.

The bill went to an old address. I'm surprised a collection agency would even collect $30.00 I'm just surprised they didn't just call me instead of handing it over to collections. I paid it since I don't like being stiffed myself. I called back and reached someone more helpful who gave me their offices billing company and I paid them directly instead of some collection agency🙄
