Is There a Difference Between a Promise Ring & a Purity Ring?

Can anyone tell me the differences if there is one.

A purity ring is meant to denote abstinence until marriage and is usually a plain metal band without gemstones or any ornate embellishment. Promise rings, however, don’t necessarily have anything to do with abstinence unless it’s part of the deal. They are a promise of love within a romantic relationship. They are a little dressier than purity rings.

They are both something that have no widespread universal meaning and really mean nothing.
I can scream all day about how pure I am, and I have a ring for to prove it! Most people would laugh.
