The war of 1812, but when the Canadians burned the White House. Let's be fair and give credit where it's due; the English were getting their asses kicked so badly in that war that Canada had to step in and save them (this despite the US not having a standing army at the time they declared war); if they hadn't, the UK would probably be a full-blown democracy by now.
Oh, and Canadians? Let's also not claim credit where it isn't due; while you definitely performed the best out of the four factions involved, your side still lost- you are not "the only country to defeat the US in a war", that would be Vietnam. You "won" in the same sense you "won" the American Revolution: impressive military performance that doesn't stop the achieving of political goals.
And UK people, if the idea of being a full-blown democracy sounds good, bear in mind you'd also be a full-blown democracy that writes the date in the proper month-day-year order.
I think of both the War of 1812 and Tchaikovsky’s overture.
“1812 is 4 times 153”. Are you sure?
@OlderAndWiser See the update. Thanks for catching this.
I always enjoy your questions, Tom, even if I sometimes don't answer them. But... when I hear 1812, I actually think of 1215! Whatever does that mean? :)
1215 is when King John signed the Magna Carta, considered to be the first document that defined
individual rights in England and beyond, and influenced later movements for democracy and human rights.
yup! :)
Thanks for the MHO!

As an American, I immediately think of the War of 1812. And the Star Spangled Banner was inspired by the British attack of Fort McHenry during that war.
But yeah, Tsaikovsky's amazing 1812 Overture comes to mind, as well. That's about a different war.
The DRD that John Crichton adopted while he was stranded on the Leviathan Elack. Of course the name comes from the 1812 Overture, so that fits.
It was one of the major years for the Peninsula war, the stuff across in Canada was pretty much a non event tbh. I only found out about it when I was in my 20s.
The Brits were pissed off and sailed over to DC and started burning most of the city. Not a fun time and I'm glad things healed up
The war of 1812, in which the Brits were sore losers and tried to come back, but they got bullwhipped so hard that their humiliation got 10× worse
War of 1812 & Napoleon's disastrous decision to invade Russia
When Napoleon invaded Russia.
The war of 1812 I guess
The War of 1812.
The war of 1812 obviously.
The overture with cannons
