When do you think that when someone does something bad "it was a long time ago" is no longer a valid excuse?

Usually when someone did something bad "it was a long time ago" is often a go-to excuse. And assuming it was something minor I'd say it's a valid response. It also depends on your age when you did that thing, too. If you were a child or teenager it's more understandable, but if you were already a grown adult, less so.

Either way, when do you think that the "it was a long time ago" excuse no longer flies?

For me, I guess I'd just say something completely unforgivable that left a huge negative impact on the person's life. Probably something illegal that you could go to jail for. Like raping the person or murdering someone that the person loves. Even a child or teenager doing that type of thing would be unforgivable.

But if it was something more short term and more of an annoyance than something traumatizing or anything... I'd say it's a valid excuse. Like if you and a person just got into a ugly fight/disagreement or the person just embarrassed you in front of other people. It sucks a lot no doubt about it but I wouldn't say it's unforgivable.

So yeah. Basically, if it was something small, it's a valid excuse. If it was something big, it's no longer a valid excuse.

TL;DR In my opinion if it was a small thing then it's a valid excuse, but if was a bigger thing then it's no longer a valid excuse.
