I know it’s not that unusual for people to get their first pair of glasses in their twenties, but I’ve never really heard anyone talk about the experience. What were your thoughts and feelings when you got your first pair of glasses? It’s definitely different than it is for kids, but especially if you are a young adult I feel like it can be a very distinct experience. For me it was bittersweet, but I honestly don’t know how other people who had the same experience felt. How did you adjust to wearing glasses, and what was your reaction when you found out you needed them? Bonus points for anyone who needed glasses as a kid but never got them, as that was my experience to. I would love to hear anything you want to share about what happened

This is a great question, unfortunately for me, I started wearing glasses from a very early age. I was in my junior school, and I started to have problems seeing the chalkboard (sorry, can’t say the other word, as it’s now politically incorrect). So my parents took me for an eye examination at our local optometrist, and discovered I needed glasses, and have been wearing them ever since. It took some getting used to, as I was a young child.
But having to wear them on a daily basis, you just automatically adjust, and as I got older having regular checks, my prescription changed, which meant new lenses. And once again, had to adjust to the new prescription.
I’ve just had a new pair of glasses in November, just gone and these are varifocal lenses. So I’ve just about got used to them.
I see. I don't know if you’re unlucky if I’m being completely honest. I also needed glasses from a very young age, but unlike in your case no one picked up on it, even after I failed a vision screening. I don’t have the experience of wearing glasses as kid, but I might have had better grades and self esteem if I did. I’ve bee wearing glasses for a while now ( I wear multifocals too), and all the things you described were very new to me until i adjusted. I think the process is different when you’re an adult but I’m not sure how. I made this post to see if anyone else had an experience like mine, where they never did it as a child and it was all new to them. Also I don’t get the part about political correctness means, can you explain it?
When I was at school a chalkboard was called a B***kboard, but you can’t say that anymore. Which is what I meant by being politically incorrect, I like to speak my mind, but maintaining politeness. But you can’t speak your mind anymore. I just wanted to give honest reply without causing offence.
This is a joke right? I appreciate you, but I’ve never met a single person who was offended by the word “blackboard”
Want to continue seeing clearly? Get them
Want to continue driving legally? Get them.
Want to continue to do your job? Get them.
In short, if you need them, get them.
Yes, what’s your question?
How did you feel when you got your first glasses?
I felt grateful for my vision.
Me too lol. Did you need them as a kid or not until you were older?
Just a couple of year’s ago
