I respect your choice but I will still prefer a woman with a job.
If I was creative or innovative enough to run a home business I would do it. But I'm not unfortunately so I have to work. I don't wanna mooch off my future husband. Plus I'm not paying all this money for school to stay home all day lol
I worked for seven years, was SAHM for five years, worked PT for three years, and am now back in my career. It's very doable.
@PunkinPie I'm sure it's doable but not something I'm interested in. I don't want him paying the bills by himself
Well, it was a decision that we made together. My point is that my education was not wasted in the least.
@PunkinPie oh okay
It also gave me a chance to do some things part-time then I would not have been able to do full time. So the variety was interesting in and enhanced my resume, too!
I'd never do such a thing, my respect tu those that do
A nice interesting mytake. It's what ever works best for the couple and their lifestyle.
It might be nice, but I don't think I would want myself or my husband to be house parents.
Yeah, housewives are for white or Latino men only. They're not for South Asian, Middle Eastern, East Asian or black men, because us darker-skinned folks are more likely to be single.
id like having a stay at home wife.
I wanna have a bunch of kids, so would love if I could have their mum looking after them instead of a nanny.
I just like the idea of coming home to some hot food.
great! i think eating healthy would be the best thing when i get married.
I agree with you with everything accept te first one I mean if someone is constantly home the use a lot of electronic which costs money though.
Not as much as gas, work clothes, etc.
@PunkinPie what do you mean?
The cost of the additional utilities is way less than the cost of gas (and tolls) for driving to work and buying professional clothes... and wayyyyy less than the cost of daycare. My sister figured out it would cost her and her husband more for her to work than the money she was making, so she stayed home.
Or you can substitute the cost of public transportation for driving if you live in a city
@PunkinPie oh where do you live?
My mom lives in the Netherlands and her work pays for her gas everyday. And if she goes by train that gets paid out also with a business card from her work. Also you don't have to wear a specific uniform just your regular clothes.
My dad lives in France and also his car gas gets paid by his work. He doesn't have to wear a suit either just regular clothes.
So they don't pay for anything just show up for work
Ah, socialism! I'm in the U. S.
@PunkinPie oh well maybe that's it then
Yes, I live near Philadelphia. It is very expensive.
@PunkinPie I didn't know the us doesn't pay out the transportation I'm sorry that's pretty expensive yeah
Well but I think our wages are higher. I had this conversation was a European relative years ago, who talked jealously about how wonderful life was in the US. I said "Look, we make more money but we work really, really hard. We don't get all the time off you do, and we pay for everything ourselves."
The difference is that we decide what we're going to do, and in other countries some of the decisiona are made for you by the government or the employer.
So there are trade-offs. I think our lives are a lot more stressful, but we have more options if that makes sense.
My employer pays if I have to go somewhere other than my regular work location. I work in the suburbs but when I go to visit a client or work in the city office they will pay the extra cost.
@PunkinPie I dont get it isn't the euro above dollar? Where is you relative from like which country?
It really depends on the job you do in how much money you make here though. We don't all earn the same money. You don't get to have the time of here either in sec. You have an amount of vacation days that you can take but that's not really a lot if you go above that it will be cut out of your salary. If you stay away for too long the possibilities are you get fired.
It's very individual here too you know. You have to decide what you want to do here it's not just handed to you, you have to study and work for it. And hope that you get the job.
It's very stressful here too where are you basing on that it's not stressful working here lol?
@PunkinPie alright that's good because it's for your job of course they can't let you pay for yourself haha that would be mean
They could! My relatives live in Hungary. She gets two months vacation, nine months off after each child. They don't work past their scheduled time. She retired fully at age 55, I think, and now travels the world. She was an engineer.
We get six weeks unpaid leave for a baby. I often work all day at the office and then come home and work till midnight, then get up at 6:30 to go to the office. I think I may have a heart attack... I'm not kidding. Everyone I know feels the same way. I wake up every morning at 3 a. m. with panic. My sister is having chest pain when she goes to work.
I used to work for a company that bought a small company in England. One of the women came to the US for training and she told me that the company provided her with a car. So she didn't have to think about what kind of car to get, how much to pay up front and how much the payments should be, etcetera. It was just provided. That's what I meant.
But her salary, when converted to US dollars, was much less than the average manager's salary here
She said she would rather have a higher salary and pick out her own car.
@PunkinPie oh Hungary I never went there so I don't know much about it. Wow 9 months off for a baby😧That's a lot in the Netherlands and France it's 4 months off. The don't work past they're scheduled time? Seriously you don't get too do that here though you're boss will immediately ask an conversation like what's going on you have to work all 9 hours a day.
I mean 55 retired that's very young. In the Netherlands its 67 and France its 62. You see not all countries in Europe are the same. I think the people in Hungary are just lucky from what you tell me but other countries in Europe aren't that fortunate.
That's tough my parents have to get up early too my dad gets up at 6:00 my mom gets up at 5:00. My dad works till 5 my mom works till 4.
It sounds like you really have a hard time maybe see a doctor for this because it's not normal to wake up at 3:00am and have panic attacks. I think the doctor can prescribe you some medicine for that. Or you can talk to a counselor?
@PunkinPie she got a car for her work? What a luxury hahah. Yeah I feel the same I would had much rather have more salary then a car. It's still strange that converted euro to dollar came out less. Because the euro is more then dollar. But as you say maybe you earn more but then only in that kind of sector maybe? I don't know
I'm saying if the Euro is $1.20, and you make 50,000 euros but your American counterpart makes $70,000 then the American still earns more money because their salary is 58,300 euros.
Okay then the Netherlands is more like the US.
Hungary was behind the Iron Curtain for a long time and people who spent all that time in Communism were used to the benefits. It's been difficult for some of my relatives over time to adjust to having to work more and have more responsibility.
I don't know exactly about the nine months but I do know that my half niece had two babies and because of the way it worked out with the timing of the babies she didn't have to work for 18 months. I don't know if she got any pay but she did not lose her position. She is a pharmacist.
My company does provide free counselors and I do have good medical insurance. I have a counselor and she tells me I need a new job!
I was on medication for many years but it had other side effects and I took myself off it. It's very frustrating. Basically because of the economy we have too much work and not enough employees, so everyone does the work of 3 people.
I should not have to take drugs in order to work!!!
@PunkinPie oh that's what you mean okay that could be possible.
The fact that Hungary was communist is a very good factor why it' was so much easier there. I can imagine it's much harder now since it's not a positive change.
It's positive in a LOT of ways, just different.
@PunkinPie
Pharmacists don't have a hard job I think that plays a huge factor in why she had so many months off.
I agree with your counselor you do need another job. Look at your health it's not good for you maybe find one closer to your home.
Didn't the doctor gave you other medicine since those gave you bad side effects? Because of the economy I think it's hard yeah I don't know what to say accually what do you think is best for you?
It's been lovely talking with you. I wish I had a daughter.
@PunkinPie thanks! You can always adopt
No, I can't, but it's a nice thought!
@PunkinPie why can't you?
You cannot adopt a baby if you are too old, and I am working all the time and wouldn't be able to care for a child properly anyway, of any age. My son is 14... almost 15... Oh my god! He's pretty independent and trustworthy.
What I have always wanted to do is take care of girls who need help as a foster parent. I just can't do that with my career and no husband :(
HI'm divorced and my son's father is good with him.)
@PunkinPie oh but you already have a kid. He's almost my age hahha
I'm sorry you couldn't make your dream come true!
@PunkinPie that's good right
At one time my ex-husband and I look into adoption and the government requires that you cannot be older than 50 by the time the child is 18. Something like that.
Yes, it is good. My ex and I always what and that's why I divorced him, but now that we live separately but in the same neighborhood, it's been great for our son. We get along much better as parents than we ever did as husband & wife. I just mean that if I adopted a child, he would not help take care of that child.
"Always fought."
Regarding treatment for anxiety and depression, yes I've been on several different ones. I seem to be more sensitive than other people to side effects. I actually work in the drug industry so I'm very familiar with it. LOL. My family come to me and ask "What do you know about this drug or that drug?" I tell them I'm not a doctor. :)
@PunkinPie oeh that sucks what I tight rule.
That's good that you still live in the same neighborhood he can still see both of you without having to travel a lot. Funny how that works right separated your closer then when you lived together.
I understand that because you don't live together no more
@PunkinPie hahahah funny but also a very big bummer. I hope you feel better in the future though!
Yes, and my son walks to his apartment after school two days a week and my ex can take him to dr. appointments and such so it really is nice.
I think the purpose of the adoption rule is so that you don't have older people who are very strict, likely to get ill and not be able to care for them, or can't relate to the children, who are likely coming from troubled homes to begin with.
@PunkinPie okay that makes sense if you put it like that
Great points but I wouldn't like to be at home taking care of children.
Most children who grow up with someone to take care of them turn out to be very successful later.
I think 1 week the dad should stay home and the next week the mom.
i'm unsure what i want my so to be
i have time and i'm glad i do
I never been a housewife before, love making my own money
1. Cheaper then the maid
2. Don't complain
3. Don't care half the time
4. God knows
5. That's about it
THEy are very worth it!
No, I disagree. The only benefit is the benefit of not being alone. The other crap is meaningless.
You'll make a great housewife one day OP
I like this. I like this a lot.
