We don’t talk enough about the grief that comes with growing up, especially someone we once loved.
Maybe it was your best friend from your teenage years, a partner you were considering marrying, or a family member you no longer felt safe around. They weren’t “bad people.” They just… stopped feeling like your people.
Growth Is Not Always Mutual
As we evolve emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, not everyone evolves with us. Sometimes youfind yourself in conversations that no longer feel fulfilling or in relationships that feel more like memories than anything real.
This doesn't mean you're selfish. It means you've changed.
Love Without Alignment Is Exhausting
Yes, you can love someone and feel completely disconnected from them. You can miss someone and know they no longer bring peace to your life. You can remember the good times and still walk away without guilt.
We grow from people as bigger versions of ourselves, not because we hate them, but because we just keep going.
You Are Allowed to Keep Your Peace
Letting go doesn't have to be dramatic. You don't need a big fight, a long closing argument, or even their understanding. Sometimes, your peace is all the explanation you need.
And if they ask you what happened, you can simply say, "I've grown up and I'm not going to apologize for it."
What about you?
Have you ever outgrown someone you loved so much? How did you deal with it? Did you feel guilty or did it bring you peace?
