What does it mean when a guy says he could fall in love with me?

I have been seeing him for about 5 months and he has told me this on a couple of occasions. We've known each other for many years, however. He has told me he loves me, but I am trying to understand if his statement means he is considering or is saying he would like to move the relationship to a more serious level. He clearly knows that I do love him very much. We are also living currently in different cities, so distance is a problem

In my opinion, he loves you. Remember, us men are not some sort of deep layered, complicated beings. That's women's job. For the most part, what you see is what you got. So, even though I am a total stranger in the internet from god knows what sh*t hole in this world, I am willing to go on a limb here to say that he loves you.

Loving someone and being IN love with them are two different things to some people. It sounds like to him being in love with you is a step ahead than just loving you. I don't think he's saying that he wants to move it to a more serious level just yet, but instead he is saying that he can see himself doing that in the future.
