Would you get bothered if your bf/gf doesn't say "i love you" back to you often? Why is my boyfriend so bothered about it?

me and my boyfriend have been together for over a year
the first time he said "i love you" is 3 months in our relationship
the first time i said "i love you" is on our 1 year anniversary
he does say it to me almost everyday but i still dont say it as often
and then he gets abit annoyed I think when i dont say it back
he would say:
"i dont get a 'i love you' back?"
"im gonna say 'goodnight, i love you' and i want you to say it too"
Why is he so bothered about it?

If my boyfriend doesn't say it back once in a while, it's not a big deal at all. But if he wasn't saying it back at least the majority of the time, that would bother me for sure. If saying "I love you too" is difficult or stressful for him, then I'd see that as a sign of problems in our relationship or a lack of feelings on his end. Of course, if I was telling him I loved him every five seconds, I could understand if it got old. But I say it a few times a day max. And it comes from the heart every time.

If he didn't truly love you, I would expect him to be less bothered by it.

It would bother me. In my eyes I would think there's something wrong, maybe in the relationship itself or feelings are changing or something. I know my boyfriend would be bothered by it too if I stopped saying it back as much.

It sounds like it. He may wonder if you really do love him or if you're saying it to please him or something, though that's just a guess.

Yeah I would get really bothered coz I'd think he doesn't love me back since he didn't say. If you love him Why would you refuse to say it? I think he'd be very happy to hear it from you often.

personally I wouldn't care. If we both said I love you then that's that. Saying it every day means nothing. I don't need to hear it 24/7 to validate the relationship.
