Have you ever tried to play cupid with a girlfriend, or guy friend, and get them matched up with someone you thought they might really like?

This question just came to me when I replied to an answer to one of my posts, but I won't mention her name without her permission as we are not close GAG friends yet.

She was concerned that her friend betrayed her by telling her crush that she liked him without her permission, which is definitely wrong. But I shared with her that 2 times when shy girlfriends of mine asked me to do just that, it made the boys want to flirt with them, which was just what they wanted to happen, so it turned out great!

I was getting a reputation as being a cupid of sorts... lol

Has that ever happened to you? Did you do something to hook up a guy or girl with someone, or have you ever had someone try to hook you up with someone?

How did it happen or how did it work out?

A. YES! I have matched up a girlfriend or guy friend with someone before and it worked out great!

B. Yes, I have matched up a couple like that before but it didn't work out so well.

C. Yes, I have had a friend, or relative, match me up with a guy or a girl

D. NO! I would never want anyone to help me find a match, I will do that for mayself, you never know what you will end up with otherwise

E. No, I have never had it done, but I would love it if one of my friends or relatives found me a match that they thought would be perfect for me.

F. NO, I have never done that for anyone, I will let my friends work out their own relationships for themselves

I have never tried by fear to interfere with the private life of my friend (s). I don't know if they would have appreciated me trying to set them up.

Furthermore, I don't know if I would not rather have kept the person that seemed to be a nice person to hook up with for myself. I need love too!

I would feel terrible if, because my cupid-like intervention, something would go wrong between the 2 people and I would find myself at the origin of the conflict.

I would rather not be active in this domain which is not a strong point of mine than having to bear the blame or perhaps even losing a dear friend that thinks that I put my nose into business that is none of mine in the first place.

Live and let live is the motto I would abide by in this case. Do not put wood in the fire if you don't know how to handle the hose or the fire extinguisher.

I have! 😂 I have been successful making 3 couples so far! It’s funny but I have always being able to tell they felt attracted to each other but were too shy to ask each other out, one of those couples had a lot of things in common and wanted the same things but they had no idea they shared the same interests, it was just a matter of giving hints. The third couple were “just friends” and didn’t want to ruin their friendship so they took forever to share their feelings, but it was simple letting them know that we all knew about their attraction. 😂 Funny how love and people work!

My friends have done it with me too.

One of which became one of my closest friends.

One became my boyfriend of 5 years.

And the others become a friend as well.

I didn't try to do it, but my friends did it to me, twice.
They tried to set me up with a girl of our company, although it didn't exactly go forward we became excellent friends.

The second time it was with my current girlfriend - they noticed there was a soft spot between us and did their best to push the both of us together.
Admittedly it was more necessary with me than with her - I was clueless about a lot of things, and she was getting a bit exasperated 😅😅.
It took almost a year to finally get together, but I'm so happy and grateful it went that way.

I wanted her for myself, but I quickly realized she liked him more. She only talked to me to get close to him lol!

He broke up with his ex, and I quickly put them together!

I also saved an old friend's relationship, gave her advice and she and her boyfriend who were literally about to throw it all away... due to lack of communication... both of them didn't know what to do and how to save what they had, and it was getting to that point where they were lost and becoming resentful.. after she heard what i had to say they managed to work things out.. they are still together now from what i know...
that was 8 years ago.. unfortunately my friend decided that 2 years back instead of being friends with me she would stab me in the back (not literally speaking but might have well have been)

The one time I tried to play matchmaker, I ended up dating the girl instead. So I've refrained from it ever since. What I try to do is more of a hands-off approach, like if one of my guy friends is a bit shy, I'll try to help him overcome those fears, try to help him realize there's nothing to worry about, and set him on his way without interference.

As for people playing matchmaker for me, that has happened to me a couple of times but it really messed up my whole vibe and approach. So that's also part of the reason I try to avoid it in favor of a more "hands-off" approach.

I think the opposite happened to me as I was totally in love with a guy, but maybe because I kept it no secret and threw myself at him, he became afraid of me. I'm not sure if that is what happened, but in the end he didn't pick me :(

He was one of those totally gorgeous and handsome guys that could have almost any girl he wanted, so maybe it was for the best. At least that is what I keep telling myself... lol

I once tried and it's been tried on me a couple times by different people. To keep long stories short, they all worked about as well as you'd expect with someone like me, who deals with self-esteem and social etiquette/norms issues. Aka, they didn't work at all.

I did meet the 'perfect' guy by accident at my dads office 4 years ago that I was totally in love with but in the end he didn't end up feeling the same about me :(
