I am referring to in real life, of course, not strangers on the internet.
I tend to trust anyone who is nice to me and seems genuine on the surface at least until I find out that my trust was ill placed.
Some people look at everyone first with a jaundiced* eye until that person proves themselves first to them, not trusting anything about them until that time.
(*Jaundiced eye. ... Someone who looks upon something with a jaundiced eye is most often perceived as having been harmed or tricked in the past and is world-wise. The word jaundiced is an adjective that means showing distaste, envy or bitterness.)
I have a hard time functioning that way because if I don't trust someone then I just want to get away from them and I don't want to be around them very long.
What is your natural tendency for trust?

The problem I see with this question is that its either trust or distrust, which isn't a fair.
If you're putting your trust in someone then it depends on what you're trusting them with. Example, I have a friend whos the kindest person you could meet but they are also flaky when it comes to organisation. I trust them if I have a secret I want to get of my chest but I wouldn't trust them to arrange a piss up in a brewery.
I'm like you, Lauri. I trust people until they betray my trust. If you don't trust people, why should they trust you? How can you be intimate? What's the harm in trusting? What have you got to lose?
Except, I wouldn't trust a stranger enough to have access to my home when I wasn't there. I wouldn't trust them with my valuables. There are limits until you get to know someone.
Seems like every time I trusted someone I wound up getting screwed. Never trust a service person ( plumber / electrician etc. ) they are there to make money- the more the better, so they will rape you good.
This is a good question, a welcome break from the non stop Staring Game. Anyway, I hold trust as the most important component in a relationship. Trust for me starts with little things. Did she do what she said she would. Does her narrative always line up etc. I never worry about cheating or that shit. Waste of time.
The only thing I trust is that people will only ever do the thing that serves their ego the most.
I do my very best not to trust anyone, and not to let my emotions and attachments ever overrule my brain. Which has happened a couple of times, much to my dismay.
I always treat people the way i want to be treated , which is with respect and honestly, I am not very judgmental so if someone is nice to me then i have no reason to not trust them in the beginning so it just goes by the connection if they start acting shady usually our gut instincts will kick in and earn us , so that's when you kind of take a step back and figure out what is up with them , we are pretty good at picking up on people by their actions
I automatically trust to a certain extent until the person proves untrustworthy. Over time my level of trust can be increased by a person proving that he or she is worthy of more trust. It's like the difference between letting someone know where I live and giving that person a key. Lots know where I live but only a few have a key.
I tend to be sceptical, but offer everyone the benefit of the doubt. I think I can read people pretty well, but I don't know what I don't know, so I try to protect myself while still remaining open-minded.
I don't trust anyone unless I'm thrust into a position where I HAVE to trust them with something and then I let my guard down with them more often since its all fucked anyways, so I think the second one is me?
My trust was broken in a 15 year marriage. My trust is not easily given now. It takes time for me to just trust amyone. I still trust its just hard for me. Its real hard to explain.
When I meet a new person I always assume the best about them and then adjust my view as I get to know them, it's like they get a full bar initially and if it drops past a certain point - they're out.
I trust, and believe in the goodness, until they give me reason to doubt! I pray that I never experience that, but not all people have integrity, and not all are honest, and caring.
I assume the best until the worst is proven but never assuming the worst is impossible. I try to be tactful and wise about relationships, neither trusting too easily but also not assuming the worst.
You're right, "I trust you" is a better compliment than "I love you". It takes time for me to trust people. They have to show me through actions. I don't give my trust out like candy.
From the start I distrust people until they prove themselves, which can only happen when situations present themselves. The majority of people, the more I know them, the more I know they can't be trusted.
Sometimes I will distrust someone from the moment I meet them, or hear them. Trump is a perfect example. But if I don't get a negative energy vibe right away, I'll keep an open mind. I'm not likely to put myself in a situation where I "need to trust" someone I don't really know.
I think for the most part Trust needs to be earned! I. E always airing on the side of caution, but at the same time leaving room for the trust to grow.
I generally don't trust people immediately. I take my time to observe and understand their behaviour towards me and others to know whether I can actually trust them. It takes time but saves me from a lot of pain and sadness in the future.
