Yes, I believe so. Players often have many friends because people are selfish wether they want to admit it or not. People can see one of their best friends cheating on their partner and blatantly lie to her face but still remain his friend because he is good to them, at least to their knowledge, and then they blame allowing their friend to act like a douche on "not wanting to get involved".

Could be a friend yeah. They can be funny, perceptive, intuitive. They can have all the qualities of a good friend. What makes them a player is their desire to sleep around. But if you're friends you don't have to worry about that because friends shouldn't be fucking each other anyway. Sort of ruins the dynamic.

That depends on what you mean by good friend. A good friend in my opinion is someone you can trust. Someone who will not make you uncomfortable or put you in situations that do, excepting for your betterment of self. And someone who in the chips are down will help you out of a tight spot.

Can a player do these things? Yes they can. Is it likely for them to do so out of the goodness of their heart? Probably not.
