Why do my friends say my crush "loves" me?

I've had a crush on my best friend for around 9 months now and everyone knows it, the thing is they don't like me back, they started dating someone else that I don't really approve of (not because of the bias but because they are no offense delusional and just not a good partner for anyone) so I don't openly flirt with him anymore, they have been dating for around 2 months at this point and now my close friends are all saying that he loves me back, even a girl that has a crush on me says it, they know I'm trying to move on but they insist but have no acual proof to give me, are they just pulling some cruel prank on my feelings or what? I'm confused
