I don't get how people even have time for this. if you follow 9000 people you have to spend all day looking at their posts that's insane. I follow 76 people and a bunch are friends and then I follow a few Kpop idols and that's it. I even unfollow people when I feel like my feed is too crowded. I don't go on insta much but when I do there's usually only 15 new posts max so it's very manageable. I would get overwhelmed if I followed 9000 people I'd have to leave the platform.
I'd say you just have to make it clear you don't accept this and enforce this decision. It's up to him what he wants to do just don't continue the relationship if he doesn't change. This isn't healthy behavior anyway so you're doing him a favor.
