What about the sigma?
Someone suggested I might be a sigma woman, but I haven’t heard too much about this type.
It's all a bunch of horseshit (*) not unlike astrology or tarot cards.
If you want to waste your time believing or worrying about such horseshit, feel free.
(*) There are really 3 types of sciences:
1) Pure mathematical sciences (which includes logic).
2) "Hard" physical sciences such as physics and chemistry and biology.
3) "Soft" social sciences such as psychology, sociology, anthropology.
The problem with soft sciences is that they need to categorize things that truly defy categorization.
For instance, look at the number 1/2 = 0.5. A mathematician or someone who uses mathematics in the hard sciences has no problem accepting 0.5 as a number. But, to a social scientist who can only deal with integers, half of them will say (that is, categorize) "That number is 0" and the other half with say "That number is 1". Because they need this categorization and can't handle the fluidity of reality, they often create pseudoscience.
And this Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Sigma, Omega bullshit is just such an example. Social scientists don't bother creating definitive multidimensional quantities when trying to describe what they study. Instead, they create these bullshit labels and say that this label has these qualities and that label has those qualities. So, with these labels and assigning a subject to a single label, there's no way to deal with subjects that are partly one label and partly another. It's like doing gender studies with only cis-gendered heterosexual men and women and ignoring that homosexuals or those with gender dysphoria don't exist.
Here's another way of looking at it...
If your crayon box has only 8 colors so those are the only colors you know, then when someone shows you something that is the color cyan or magenta (which are not in your crayon box) but doesn't give them the names "cyan" or "magenta", then how do you deal with them? The object that is cyan in color (and, again, you don't know the actual name): Is it blue or green? Half the color social scientists will say it's blue and the other half will say green because they don't have labels for cyan... So, the poor student studying color social science is confused because some "authorities" say "blue" and others say "green".
So, I hope you can see what I am trying to drive at with labels being both limiting and misleading.
Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Sigma, Omega, and whatever other fucking labels these ethologists come up with are just as limiting and misleading... so don't bother worrying about them.
Good question, thank you for asking it.
Can I be honest?
I don't really buy into all the ''Alpha beta omega sigma tau'' etc. gimmick. Every person, every human being should find the place in society and life that they feel it's the best for them, no matter their gender, race, sexual orientation and beliefs.
Don't get me wrong, I know that some people are natural born leaders while others are natural born followers; but I also believe that any person who has a conscience and a good modicum of critical thinking can ''train'' themselves to be a leader, or on the contrary, be a follower - or be both, depending on the situation.
Likewise, this ''Sigma'' term seems to be just encompassing what I'd call a conscientious, critical and independent person; who's either uninterested in being a leader or a follower or takes either role as the situation calls it.
*or on the contrary, prefer to be a follower
You are welcome, thank you for appreciating my opinion and I'm happy it contributed to the topic.
I think that these kinds of social hierarchy don't make any sense, are based on the fact that wolves don't actually have a social hierarchy, and the study that proved this was bull shit. I think that natural confidence is always attractive, which is what sigmas have.
No, I had a friend in highschool who was literally Narcissus himself, we were allies in a sea of bullies and became best friends, but his narcissism grew worse with age... I didn’t wanna hurt his feelings but eventually I couldn’t take it anymore and ended the friendship. Best decision of my life.
But nice try trying to turn this on me ;) you’re quite sly you know?
I have studied your question find it's very powerful & holds truth. I find I fall under the same sigma category also. Thank you for bringing this information forward ✌️👍

The entire hierarchy system for dating/relationships is stupid.
You would probably label me a sigma if you knew me.
I prefer the terms nerd/geek, and of you must look at rankings, an anarchist.
Love does not involve a hierarchy.
I don't want to be someone's leader/follower/dom/sub/etc. I don't care about being "on top" in some retarded caste system.
I want a best friend who treats me like an equal and shares my hobbies/interests/views who loves me, thats a relationship to me.
I don't care about being popular, I don"t even like parties or clubs or bars, 3 is a crowd unless its a 4 player game.
Your husband sounds like a smart man.
I like to think so. A lot of people don’t believe me when I say that neither of us are the leader or follower in general. It switches up depending on the situation. Some areas of life, he is more skilled at and I’ll let him lead in that thing and sometimes it’s me. Being the alpha in the relationship all the time sounds like it would be exhausting to me.
Agreed, at this point you seem smart as well. I prefer passive relationships, where neither person is in charge of the other/responsible fir the other/leads the other outside niche expertise that each person teaches the other.

From what I understand, the Sigma is the Alpha's wing man. Second in command. It's still a good position in the pack. Beta's are rank and file; those being lead by the Alpha and Sigma. Some packs have an Omega.
The Omega is whipping boy of the pack. Always eats last amd is the target of the packs frustration. That's how it works in wolf packs, where the terms come from.
In a wolf pack there is only one alpha. I don't think this is true in human society as these roles are just a metaphore for how we feel, behave, and project about ourselves. So you may be an alpha who knows many alphas.
I think in a group, one will naturally become the leader and the other "alphas" will take on the role of Sigma.
Being Sigma isn't a bad thing. It doesn't make you weak, you're just not the top dog (pun intended) in every situation. You're also never at the bottom.
Seems like the description of a male most typically perceived as attractive by the average woman.
The colloquial "alpha" is a trope associated with toxic masculinity and a fragile ego in need of perpetual self-validation through frequent displays of adherence to traditionally established social norms and expectations, "alpha" males who fit that description are likely to attract chicks with daddy issues more so than the sensible and mature female.
I got alpha although I don't feel alpha (not a stereotypical ass-kissing beta, mind you, but not alpha so often) and don't think I answered all the questions in a way that is stereotypically alpha.
Being a leader sucks balls. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. You end up worrying about everybody's well-being and not so much your own. I just do it when no one else wants to do it because I feel like I have to. I'm not alpha in the sense like I want to be leader if other people wanna be leader. I'll let them be leader.
Too many labels, and too much keeping these insignificant things in consideration.
Man and woman. Is there attraction? Do you like the other as a person? Is it worthy of being a lifetime partner and eventually making a family with?
These are the only things you need to know.
Snowflake alert XD all these terms mean nothing. People are individuals. Alpha and beta, sigma, omega, it’s all pseudoscience. The truth is that people rank differently depending on environmental factors. In the jungle a strong man wins the ladies, in the city, an intelligent man will go farther (not talking hookups, talking actually winning ladies a. k. a committed relationships)
I don't buy into that set of labels, but that sounds a lot like me. I think the world would be much better if most people were like this instead of the constant peacocking and attempts at claiming dominance I always see.
It's unneccessary to "prove" yourself better than anyone else. I never understood that part of human nature
Any time a person adjacently catorgorizes themselfs with an type of classification for a simple reputional paradym of constructed views of societal construities , they're usually the ones who become those who are searching even for themselfs more than most others.
Gay. People keep basing their identity on a random letter in the greek alphabet and acting smug about it in a form of ego masturbation. This in particular is nothing but a horoscope you pick for yourself.
this is not a matter of social/socio-sexual hierarhcy. so the headding is a bit weird. this is psychological profiling. i mean this is basically a highly functional sociopath. there's terms for that. already. why call it "sigma"?
personality profiling IS psychological profiling xD
i see them as a sociopath and not only as an opportunist for their blatant disregard of social norms and the focus on their needs as opposed to what others want.
you could make the argument that this describes just person with low trait agreeableness that is very opportunistic. i couldn't argue against that. just my intuition from reading that.
I think you're a alpha sigma seems like a fence straddler
You do know that the whole alpha/beta thing doesn't really exist in humans though, do you? It's MUCH more complicated than that in humans than in other species.
I am a Sigma. I didn't even know that existed until someone mentioned it... I read up on it continually agreeing with my traits... a Sigma is still an Alpha type, just a little different. More independent, I guess you could say.
You know that I think that Alpha, Beta, Omega, Sigma and others appease those people who like to label people. Personally I believe that labels belong on products ONLY, not people.☯️
That pretty much describes ever person on the planet, we all are sigmas.
If you look at the whole hierarchy, sigma looks to be a gamma that has refined himself into an alpha
It sounds interesting that's for sure 🤔
Lol.
