Boyfriend asked me to stop singing in the car, do I have a right to be pissed?

So, my boyfriend is the only one of us with a car, so he drives, and the other day he said "can you please stop singing out loud, I want to enjoy the music?"

This kind of shocked me as I love singing along, and when I asked him for further clarification, he told me that I can't sing, and that it really is ruining the music for him.

We got into an argument and I said he can't stop me singing, and he said that it's his car and that he has asked me politely, what can I do about this?

It's his car and you should respect his request. Especially when he's honestly expressing his feelings while doing you a favor by driving you in his car.

It's kind of an asshole move not to respect his feelings in this. Your feelings being hurt is understandable. Doesn't feel good to hear. But since you know now how he feels you should respect it.

I'd be Frustrated to if I couldn't fully enjoy the music on a consistent basis because someone was singing over it. It would be like watching a movie and the person next to you is reciting the entire movie word for word, outloud, so loud that you can't pay attention to the movie.

Just because he said "please" doesn't mean that was polite. There are way better ways that he could have approached that without sounding like a complete asshole.
I would be offended if someone said that to me, let alone my S. O. And I get it. I sing along sometimes to songs I know, it lifts the spirit. But if he hates that you sing than there is really no way you can even come to a compromise. You kind of just have to stop singing when he is around.
I honestly would not be with someone who could tear me down so easily tho. I mean I am sure he has his fair share of annoying habits, but do you demand that he stop and say "it's my way or the highway"... Which when he said it to you he meant literally as he is the one with the car and implied he wouldn't drive with you anymore.

Owwiiiee 🤕Well, he had to know nothing good was going to come of him asking you that lol.. but also you had to know that it would eventually get annoying with you singing over the music always? This is uncomfortable, because I can totally see how that would hurt your feelings and also see how it could be annoying for him. What I’m getting from this is that he’s past the infatuation stage in the relationship where he overlooks your “flaws” so he speaks up about them and/oooorrrrr he’s at the point in the relationship where he’s beginning to lose feelings and now is emboldened to speak to you this way, because he does not care if the relationship ends.

Your pride is hurt and that’s understandable.

Most people don’t realize how badly they sing, and some people are quite sensitive to off key singing. Not saying you’re one of them.

At the very least, he owes you one if you get annoyed by any of his habits. Welcome to life in a long term relationship.

Perhaps you really are terrible and he tolerated it for as much as he could. He likes you and needs to be honest with you about it because he can't take it anymore and he wants to go the distance with you.

Or you aren't that bad a singer and he is started to tire of you.

Or music is really important to him and you are intruding on a "sacred" moment. In a mature relationship that will go the distance, you will have to handle hearing from your partner I don't like "x" about you.

If you felt his delivery was off fine but he has 100% right to not like your singing over the music on the radio and it is kind of annoying tbh.

I personally HATE when someone who can't sing does so loudly when I'm just trying to listen and enjoy the music.
